Ashley Spotts, a Sunbury teenager with cystic fibrosis (CF) and diabetes who received a life-saving double lung transplant earlier this year, is enjoying her second shot at life.  However, she and her family are faced with uninsured medical costs of over $100,000.
Gospel Bond is stepping up to help the family pay those costs.  The Selinsgrove-based group of seven men singing traditional southern gospel style are holding their 9th Annual Gospel Concert & Chicken Barbecue Benefit on Sat., Sept. 11, at the Grace Covenant Community Church in Middleburg.  The family-oriented evening also features the nationally known Crist Family in addition to Jesz-Me & Sparky Clowns for Christ for the kids. The Crist Family was voted the 2009 Horizon Group of the Year.  Proceeds from the concert will go directly to the Ashley’s Angels Transplant Fund (AATF) to pay medical bills.
“We wanted to help this young teenager out,” Gospel Bond’s Jon Yerger said, “and this is our way of giving back to the community.”
The meal starts at 4:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 6 p.m.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children. People should ensure they get tickets by calling Jon Yerger at 374-9905 before Aug. 31 to ensure seating. There will be some tickets sold at the door.
The AATF was formed by Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis, Inc. (PACFI) along with the Walk On Foundation and Kingdom Kidz, Inc., of Milton.  The three charitable organizations are working together to help the family pay the transplant costs.  People who aren’t able to attend the concert can make a check out to PACFI and mail it to PACFI, c/o Ashley’s Angels, P.O. Box 29, Mifflinburg, PA 17844.  Online donations can be made at www.pacfi.org or www.walkonfoundation.com.
