FFA holds annual banquet

   The Mifflinburg FFA Chapter celebrated its seventy-eighth Anniversary at the Annual Parent and Member Banquet held at the Mifflinburg Area High School. Approximately, two hundred twenty-five guests, members, and parents attended the program. Chapter Vice President Crissa Johnson served as the toastmaster for the evening program, while other members made the presentations. The guest speaker for the evening was Pennsylvania FFA Treasurer Cale Grimes.  
    Individual awards from the state and national levels were presented to chapter members. Ginger Spangler was recognized for being only the twenty-third member of the chapter to earn the American FFA Degree. Crissa Johnson of Lewisburg was recognized for her Bronze Medal at the national level in the area of Diversified Crop Production this pas year.  Marissa Ewing of New Berlin was honored for being a member of the first placed Dairy Showmanship team at the Eastern States Exposition in Massachusetts this past September.  
    Mrs. Tammy Boop of Mifflinburg was presented the Honorary Chapter FFA Degree for her support of the Mifflinburg Chapter over the past number of years.  She has clerked the Junior Livestock Sale at the West End Fair and served as an emergency team advisor for the FFA Safety Bowl Team in the past.  
    Jennifer Boop, Brittany Humphrys, and Crissa Johnson were acknowledged for receiving the Keystone FFA Degree, which is the highest award presented at the state level. Jenn was also presented an award for being named the Northern Region Production Star at the Pennsylvania FFA Mid-Winter Convention in Harrisburg.
    In team events, the third place Pennsylvania Safety Bowl Team of Jennifer Boop, Cameron Englehart, Marissa Ewing, Jarred Fry and Kasey Rishel were honored for their outstanding performance at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. The Agronomy team of Jennifer Mapes, Kasey Rishel and Missy Weidensaul were presented plaques for their twenty-sixth placing in the nation contest at this year's National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
    Jennifer Mapes of Mifflinburg was recognized as the Union County Star Farmer.  Jennifer Boop was presented a Pennsylvania FFA Foundation award for having the best Supervised Agricultural Experience Records from Union County at the State Record Keeping Contest held in State College. She was also presented the Roberta Ann Walter Scholarship by Doug Walter of Northumberland. The $1,000 Scholarship will be used by Jennifer to continue her education in the College of Agriculture at Penn State this fall.
    The Star Greenhand Plaque was presented to first year member Dennis Boop Jr. The second year star member awards were presented to Emily Fetterolf and Jaden Yoder. Emily was named the Star Chapter Farmer while Jaden was named the Star Agricultural Placement Award winner.
    Scholarship awards were presented to members meeting the chapter criteria. Members earning the award for the first time were Kayla Boney, DJ Boop, Crissa Johnson, and Jacob Puterbaugh. Earning the award for a second or third time were Chelynn Bingaman, Emily Crandell, Cameron Englehart, Emily Fetterolf, Jarred Fry, Shawn Hurst, Kasey Rishel, James Sowers and Marissa Weidensaul.  Jennifer Boop was presented scholarship plaque since she met the requirements all four years she was in high school.
    Trophies were presented to the winners from the SUN Area FFA SAE Records contest. Those earning blue awards and trophies were: Jennifer Boop, Cameron Englehart, Emily Fetterolf, Brian Haggy, Brittany Humphrys, Crissa Johnson, Kasey Rishel, Audriana Ross, Cole Stahl, Missy Weidensaul and Jaden Yoder
    Red ribbons and trophies were Kayla Boney, Matthew Getz, Nathan Kahle, Amanda Miller, Alyssa Mowery and Amanda Salter.
    Members earning the white award and trophies were Fred Emery and Jarred Fry.
    Any member earning a blue or red award at the area level with their SAE Records was eligible to send up to two sets of records to the state SAE Contest which was in State College in February.  Members earning gold medals with their projects were: Brian Haggy - Swine Finishing; Kasey Rishel - Employment; and Audriana Ross - Rabbits
    Members earning silver placements were: Jennifer Boop - Beef Finishing & Swine Finishing; Crissa Johnson - Dairy Herd; Nathan Kahle - Employment; Kasey Rishel - Rabbits; Jessica Wagner - Dog Breeding; Missy Weidensaul - Sheep Finishing; and Jaden Yoder - Employment.  Earning bronze awards were: Crissa Johnson - Corn Grain; Emily Fetterolf - Sheep Finishing & Rabbits, Amanda Salter - Employment; Cole Stahl - Employment; Jessica Wagner - Pets Others; and Jaden Yoder - Swine Finishing. Brittany Humphrys and Cameron Englehart were awarded honorable mentions.
    The largest group of awards to be presented during the evening was the chapter proficiency awards that are supplied by the National FFA Foundation. The proficiency areas are listed with the members earning the awards. They are as follows: Ag Education- Jennifer Boop and Kasey Rishel; Ag Mechanics Design & Fabrication - Benjamin Eberhart and Bradley Snyder; Ag Mechanics Energy Systems - Nathan Kahle and Cole Stahl; Ag Mechanics Repair & Maintenance - Vanessa Walter and James Sowers; Agricultural Processing - Matthew Nogle; Aquaculture - Cameron Englehart and Jarred Fry; Beef Production - Chelynn Bingaman and Jennifer Boop; Dairy Production - Marissa Ewing and Crissa Johnson; Diversified Agricultural Production - Dakota Catherman and Gregory Stahl; Diversified Livestock Production - Emily Fetterolf and Jennifer Mapes; Diversified Crop Production - Jennifer Boop and Crissa Johnson; Environmental Science & Natural Resources Management - Fredrick Emery  and Cameron Englehart; Equine Science - Brittany Humphrys and Margaret Radel; Extemporaneous Public Speaking - Marissa Weidensaul; Fiber and/or Oil Crop Production - Jennifer Boop and Crissa Johnson; FFA Creed - Trisha Ruhl; Food Science & Technology - Audriana Ross and Amanda Salter; Forage Production - Jennifer Boop; Forest Management & Products - Jarred Fry and Travis Moyer; Home &/or Community Development - Amanda Miller; Poultry Production - Cameron Englehart and Matthew Getz; Prepared Public Speaking - Emily Crandell; Outdoor Recreation - Kasey Rishel; Sheep Production - John Kieffer and Marissa Weidensaul; Small Animal Production & Care - Kayla Boney and Jessica Wagner; Specialty Animal Production - Travis Kulp and Alyssa Mowery; and Swine Production - Brian Haggy and Randy Troup.
    The retiring officer team of President Jennifer Boop, Vice President Crissa Johnson, Secretary Missy Weidensaul, Treasurer Marissa Ewing, Reporter Vanessa Walter, Sentinel Kasey Rishel, Chaplain Jennifer Mapes, and Student Advisor Amanda Salter were honored with retiring officer plaques. The new officer team of President Jennifer Mapes, Vice President Kasey Rishel, Secretary Missy Weidensaul, Treasurer Marissa Ewing, Reporter Vanessa Walter, Sentinel Jaden Yoder, Chaplain Josh Eichenlaub, and Student Advisor Alyssa Mowery were installed at the end of the banquet.
    Charles Kessler and Glenn Spangler serve as the chapter advisors.
