Fred Emery, a 2010 Mifflinburg FFA graduate has been named a National FFA Silver medalist and the Pennsylvania winner in the Forest Management and Products Proficiency Area by the National FFA Organization.
The Forest Management and Products Proficiency is one of thirty-eight agricultural proficiency categories recognized by the National FFA. Awards are based on the member’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Records during their high school career and FFA activities. Members are judged on the “use of the best management practices available to conserve or increase the economic value of a forest and/or forest products through such practices as thinning, pruning, weeding, stand improvement, reforestation, insect and disease control, planting and harvesting. The member can be involved in any part of the forestry industry to compete at the state and national level.
As the Pennsylvania winner Fred was awarded a $250 prize and state plaque recognizing his achievement at Penn State during FFA Activities Week. He will be receiving the national recognition at a later date. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Emery of Mifflinburg and is employed by the family business Carl Emery and Sons Logging.
