Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter recently held its 62nd Annual State Leadership Conference on April 24, at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center. The theme of the conference was “Leadership Revolution.”
Eight students from Mifflinburg attended the conference. These students participated in activities, including various workshops about creative leadership, violence prevention, and career preparation. The keynote speaker this year was the group R5, whose presentation was on bullying prevention. They also hosted a workshop.
This year, there was a mini-fair where schools set up “booths” with games and activities. Shelbi Spriggle won a bronze medal in the Job Interview STAR event; Alyssa Greeney won a silver medal in the Chapter Service Project Manual STAR event; Katlynn Schreck and Stephanie DiGise won a silver in the Focus on Children STAR event; Audriana Ross won a silver in the National Programs in Action with her STOP the Violence Project; Kayla Grove was recognized for her FACTS project; and Kayla Bowes was the voting delegate. Aimee Sullivan was the chapter delegate photographer and will take care of future press releases.
Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and woman become leaders and addresses important, personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education. The organization has involved over ten millions youth since its founding in 1945. FCCLA is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only in-school student organization with family as its central focus.
