Area quilt-maker Darla Schell is a talented woman who has completed quilts for friends baby showers, nursing homes, fire companies, and the annual Mike & Dot’s II/Budweiser Chili Cookoff and Auction that will be held this Saturday in Mifflinburg.
“I learned quilt-making from my mother,” Schell says, “and I’ve made lots of things for charities over the years.”  This will be the 8th year of contributing to the Mike & Dot’s II/Budweiser Chili Cookoff & Auction.
“The event is always a lot of fun,” Schell says, “and I got my fun-loving spirit from my mother.”  In her spare time, Schell drives bus for the Danville school district and always plays Santa at Christmas and hands little gift bags to all her student riders.
Schell is anxious to see how much her pool table quilt raises for Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis, Inc. (PACFI).  All proceeds for the event go to PACFI.  Other items up for bid include a Penn State football weekend; a week at a shore condo in Ocean City, MD; chainsaw art by Brian Ackley; paintings from several area artists; an Immix phone; a T-6 plane ride; a helicopter ride; a night in the Jacuzzi Suite plus dinner for two at the Watson Inn; signed items from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Heath Miller and Brett Keisel; and over 100 other items.  A list of items can be seen on the PACFI website at www.pacfi.org.  Go to “Schedule of Events” and click on sealed bid items.  Sealed bids for any of the items can be sent to Mike & Dot’s II or emailed to bobderr@ptd.net.
