After careful consideration by both the American Cancer Society and volunteer leadership in the Mifflinburg community, the Relay For Life of Mifflinburg has decided to merge with the Relay For Life of Lewisburg Area.
“We are always striving to be the best possible stewards of our donor dollars,” stated Casey Fenton, Community Income Development Director, Central Region, Pennsylvania Division, American Cancer Society. “This will allow us to make the experience rewarding to all our volunteers while enjoying economies of scale by merging the two groups.”
Individual Mifflinburg teams have begun merging into the larger Relay For Life of Lewisburg Area in preparation for this year’s main event, scheduled for June 11 and 12.
“I think this merger will allow us to make the Lewisburg area event bigger than ever,” said Jodi Batman, co-chair of the Relay For Life of Lewisburg Area. “Bringing our two communities together illustrates everyone’s desire to eradicate cancer. More teams equals more volunteers, which equates to more dollars raised – and the outcome is groundbreaking research, better treatments and more lives saved.”
For general information on how you can get involved with the Relay For Life of Lewisburg Area, please contact Jodi Batman at 524-6440 or jbatman@dejazzd.com; or log onto www.relayforlife.org/palewisburg.
The next Team Captain meeting will be held on Tues., March 16 at 7 p.m. followed by a Committee meeting at 8 in the American Cancer Society office in Lewisburg’s Brookpark Farm Complex; 57 Reitz Blvd Suite 102.  All are welcome.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in the Lewisburg and Mifflinburg communities an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of participants camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length. Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.
