Lisa Streett-Liebetrau spoke at a recent Mifflinburg Rotary Club meeting about Camp Koala, a grief camp for children, she founded three years ago. Camp Koala is designed for children ages 7-12 who have experienced a recent loss of a parent or sibling. Streett-Liebetrau was moved by her own personal childhood loss to create a special camp where children can go and be with other children who are grieving and know that they are not alone. The camp is free, funded by donations, and is staffed by volunteer counselors and therapists and each child is paired with an adult Big Buddy for the weekend. Last summer five students from the Mifflinburg area attend the camp. The next camp will be held May 20-22, 2011 at Camp Thompson in Gardners. Ms. Streett-Liebetrau is a native of Mifflinburg and now resides in Carlisle. Pictured (l. to r.)
