Snyder, Union, Mifflin Child Development (SUMCD), Inc., will award three $500 college scholarships to high school seniors who were enrolled in the agency’s Head Start program as children and who plan to continue their education in a post-secondary school that awards associate’s or bachelor’s degrees.
Funds for the program are donated by SUMCD staff as a way of rewarding the hard work and personal growth of former Head Start students. “We never forget or stop being proud of our students,” said Eileen Thomas, scholarship coordinator.
Applicants must submit a completed application form, two letters of recommendation, a personal goals statement, and proof of acceptance in a qualifying post-secondary school.
The application deadline is April 30, 2010. Applications are available at high school guidance offices or from Eileen Thomas, SUMCD, Inc., 14 South 11 St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844; or Kelly Knarr, Lewistown Children’s Center, 10 Bollinger Rd., Lewistown, PA 17044.
