The annual Mifflinburg Buggy Days Festival is just around the corner and planning has been going on for months. Each year, the Buggy Museum hosts the event to help raise needed funds to operate this small, private, but nationally significant site. In addition to the Buggy Museum, Preservation Mifflinburg, the Herr Memorial Library and a number of other local non-profit organizations are taking part if the festivities. The Good Times 4-H Club will be hosting sack races and a scavenger hunt. The Susquehanna Valley Spinners and Weavers Guild will be demonstrating and many of the area’s fine craftsmen will be demonstrating their crafts. Anyone interested in participating in the festival, either as a crafter, demonstrator, food vendor; or are part of a non-profit group, contact the Buggy Museum at 966-1355. Spaces are still available.
The festival will be in two locations, the VFW Fairgrounds for the Civil War component and Green and Fifth sts. between the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum and the Gutelius House for Colonial, Federal, Victorian and Edwardian periods in history. The festival will be held Fri., June 6, which is Education Day with scheduled programs, Sat., June 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with evening activities and Sun., June 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m
There will be no admission fee or parking fee for this year’s event. Boxes will be scattered through the festival grounds for donations. The event is a major fundraiser for the Buggy Museum, which preserves the only intact 19th century carriage factory open to the public in the United States.
