February students of month chosen

    The Mifflinburg Area Middle School and Intermediate School have announced their selections for Student of the Month for February 2010.  Students are selected by their teachers on the criteria of attendance, grades, good citizenship, completion of homework, and being a positive leader in the classroom. At the year end Awards Assembly, each recipient will receive a $50 Savings Bond from the Millmont West Union Area Lions Club, the sponsor of the Student of the Month Award.

Middle School Students of Month: Curtis Beachel, Matthew Southerton and Kourtney Miles. (photos by Eleanor Gold)

    Curtis Beachel is in sixth grade, the son of Randy and Melissa Beachel. He has one sister and lives in Mifflinburg. Art is his favorite subject and he is also in the band.  He enjoys playing volleyball, playing video/computer games, drawing, and spending time with friends.  In the future, Curtis would like to be a video game artist.
    Matthew Southerton is in seventh grade.  His parents are James and Maria Southerton.  He has two sisters and lives near Lewisburg.  His favorite subjects are, tech ed., gym, and algebra.  He is in the school choir, TSA, and the Jazz band, and he enjoys playing basketball.  Matthew is an Acolyte at his church, and he enjoys playing the guitar, piano.  In his spare time he plays golf and ping-pong.
    Kourtney Miles is in eighth grade. Her parents are Mitzi and Danny Miles. She has one sister and lives in Mifflinburg.  Her favorite subjects are communications and social studies. She is a member of the school chorus and the Art Club, and a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Kourtney enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoys going to T&D’s Cats of the World. In the future, she would like to be a zoologist.

Intermediate School Students of Month: Danielle Underhill and Hannah Harriman.

    Danielle Underhill is in fourth grade, the daughter of Holly and Daniel Underhill.  She has one sister and lives in New Berlin. In school, her favorite subject is reading, and she enjoys participating in song fest and 4-square.  Baseball, basketball and hockey are her favorite sports.  In her spare time, she enjoys giving money to charities, and has a collection of snow-globes.  In the future, Danielle would like to be a veterinarian, or a fashion designer, or a basketball player.
    Hannah Harriman is in fifth grade.  Her parents are Shane and Heather Harriman.  She has four sisters and lives in Mifflinburg. Reading is her favorite subject.  She enjoys playing basketball.  She has a collection of stuffed animals, and keeps every one she receives. In the future, Hannah would like to be a teacher.
