Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Snyder of West Buffalo Twp. were callers in town last Friday. Mrs. James Anderson of Vicksburg was a recent guest of relatives and friends in town. Mr. John Housinger of near Vicksburg was a business and social visitor in town last Friday. Dr. Kenewal of Penns Creek was a business and social visitor in town for part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Loss and family of near White Springs were visitors in town last Saturday. Miss Rachel Cook of Lewisburg visited Mifflinburg relatives and friends Thursday of last week.
Mr. Charles W. Earnest made a recent successful business trip to eastern cities for the firm he represents. Mr. Clifford Reamer of Lewisburg, was interviewing our merchants, and those up country the latter part of last week. Hon. Harry Showalter and Philip B. Linn, Esq. of Lewisburg were business and social visitors in town last Friday afternoon.
Mrs. G. Harry Gould and daughters, of Vicksburg, recently visited relatives and friends in this place, who were glad to greet them. Rev. Greene Shively of White Springs was a business visitor in this place last Saturday and of course made a few social calls on friends. Sheriff John Hackenberg of Lewisburg was exchanging happy greetings with friends in this place Thursday afternoon of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Wells Gutelius and son Forrest, of near Swengel, visited former home relatives and friends in this place the latter part of last week.
Prof. Frank Boyer of Cowan was a business and social caller in this place last Saturday, his many warm friends being pleased to greet him. Mr. J. Harry Cook, of Lewisburg, was the guest of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Warley Schoch, on West Chestnut St. last Friday. Mrs. Ammon Shoemaker of down the valley was this week the guest of her aged mother at Rand, whom we are very sorry to state is in feeble health. Mr. and Mrs. Maybee of New York City spent several days this week with their warm friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. S. Gutelius at their pretty residence on East Chestnut St. Mr. Warren Stapleton, one of the energetic and pleasing young men residing near town, was the guest of relatives and friends in Lewisburg and Milton the latter part of last week. Commissioner James B. Chambers, alert at all times to the duties of his office, was a business caller at our office on Thursday afternoon of last week. He also transacted business in Lewisburg. Misses Annie Himmelreich and Etta Himmelreich two of Lewisburg’s bright and pleasing young ladies, were recently delightfully entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Wolfe and other Mifflinburg friends. Miss Helen Carter the bright and winsome little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Carter, of this place, is spending a few weeks with her grandmother, Mrs. Bressler at Millmont. One day recently her father was up to see her.
One day last week Mr. Samuel A. Fisher of Gregg Twp., was a welcome business visitor in this place and pleasing caller at this office to insert his card in the Telegraph as a candidate for the Republican nomination for County Commissioner. Next week, photographer J.C. Slear expects to attend the Annual School of Photography which will be held in Horticultural Hall, Philadelphia. His studio will be closed that week. Mrs. Slear will join her husband in this pleasurable and profitable outing.
Mr. Joseph €Frock of Rand, was a pleasing caller at this office Thursday of last week, to make arrangements— the printing of posters for his large public sale which will he held on Thursday, March 11, at ten o’clock A.M. but keep your eyes alert for the posters. Mr. George O. Zimmerman of Millmont RD was a pleasing caller at our office one day latter part of last week. He informed us that the revival meetings being conducted up the valley by Rev. Ralph Smith are largely attended and many conversions is the fine result.
We are sorry to state that Mr. John W. Lincoln the very able and courteous cashier of the Mifflinburg Bank is confined to his home on W. Chestnut St. on account of illness. At this writing, we are pleased to state is convalescing and will soon be able to resume his duties at that very busy banking institution to the great delight of all concerned.
Mrs. William Follmer of Lewisburg spent last Friday afternoon pleasantly with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnston on E. Chestnut St. at which time Mrs. Johnston delightfully entertained the members of the Ladies Afternoon Sewing Circle, including delicious seasonable delicacies of which we can vouch for their elegance, for the thoughtful and kind hostess, remembered us and sent via wife an abundance of these goodly things which we greatly relished and many thanks. Mrs. D. Heckman recently attended the funeral of a friend in Aaronsburg. Mr. C.B. Snyder of near town was a welcome caller at our office on Saturday last. Mr. John M. Badger was the guest of relatives and friends in Lewisburg last Saturday. Mr. John Klose was a business and social caller to the county seat one day last week. Dr. A.H. Hill of this place was called to Shamokin consultation on Monday last.
Frederick Bower, Esq. of Lewisburg was a business and social caller in town last Saturday. Mr. William Glover of near this place was a pleasing caller at our office on Saturday last. Mrs. Frank Pick of New Columbia was last week the guest of relatives and friends in this place. Prof. D.P. Stapleton was a pleasing caller at our office on Saturday last, socially and in a business way. Mr. and Mrs. Guy F. Roush spent a few days this week with relatives and friends in several eastern cities.
Mrs. Isaac H. Kratzer spent a few days last week with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Spitler in Lewisburg Mr. and Mrs. George C. Kleckner spent Saturday and Sunday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtin Frederick in Millmont. Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Huntingdon are receiving congratulations on the recent arrival of a bouncing boy at their home on Walnut St.
Miss Ruby Cromley of Lewisburg, spent last Saturday and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Cromley, on east Chestnut St. Mr. Daniel Klingman a wide awake progressive farmer of Millmont R.D. 1, was a pleasing visitor in Mifflinburg on Saturday last and a caller at this office. Misses Helen P. Metzger and Grace Struble two of our efficient and well-liked school marms, recently visited relatives and friends in and near Vicksburg.
Mr. Newton Baker, an efficient employee at the Vicksburg creamery, was mingling among friends and transacting business in this place the latter part of last week. Mr. David Watson an energetic and prosperous young farmer, and influential citizen, of West Buffalo Twp., was a business caller in town latter part of last week. Mr. Brice Harter of Sunbury enjoyed a week’s visit pleasantly with his esteemed grandmother, and our good neighbor, Mrs. J.W. Orwig and other Mifflinburg friends.
Mr. Charles Kauffman one of our many efficient young musicians, in fact his equals on string instruments are hard to find, assisted in rendering music at a social function in Lewisburg one evening last week. Mr. Horace W. Orwig attended a recent business meeting of the Board of Directors of the Lewisburg Trust Company, one of the very busy and flourishing banking institutions of that place. Mr. Orwig being a prominent member of the board.
Mr. P.L.B. Thompson and son Robert were up to Weikert one day last week, where the former was attending to some duties pertaining to the schools of that place which he is the well-liked and efficient teacher, and owing to a measle epidemic, has been closed for a few weeks.
Mr. S. Wm Diehl spent Saturday and Sunday with that same charming dulcina at Spring Mills. In the spring when a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love, he thinks somewhat of locating there or otherwise that is so to speak; If the mountain will not come to Mohomet, Mahomet will go to the mountain.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Lontz and interesting children spent last Friday pleasantly with his mother and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Snavely, at Spring Mills, Mr. Lontz is the efficient asst. cashier at the Farmers Bank, this place, and is well liked by the many patrons of that busy banking institution. A Hublersburg correspondent of last week’s Centre Democrat of Bellefonte says: Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Auman, newlyweds, of Mifflinburg, visited Mrs. John Hoy and son Ed and wife over Sunday. Mr Auman is a grandchild of Mrs. John Hoy. About 8 p.m. the calithumpiano paid them a visit, ending with cigars for boys and candy for the young ladies.
Friday of last week, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Faust entertained their friends, Mr. and Mrs. T.G.G Caldwell, Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Lesier, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Messinger, Mrs. Jennie McClure and Mr. and Mrs. V. Truckenmiller of Watsontown, at a royal turkey dinner with all the side dishes too numerous to mention. The sweet music of their fine victrola transported the guests into fields elysian.
Druggist Willard G. Stuck, of Marysville, California, in renewing his subscription to the Telegraph, adds: “We are going along nicely here. Business is good, considering the conditions. The big fair will soon be one. Although Marysville is 150 miles from San Francisco, we expect great benefit from it. We hope to have many of the Mifflinburg people come to California and trust they will find time to run up to Marysville and visit us.”
Mr. Harry Lepley, one of the Pa. R.R. Company’s energetic and capable young clerks, located at Williamsport, spent last Saturday and Sunday very pleasantly with home relatives and friends in this place. Ever since Harry has entertained the Company’s service he has been very apt and studious and applied himself and thus has been rapidly advanced in his work from time to time. Call soon again, home friends are always pleased to see you.
Mr. Scott Smith of Millmont was a recent business visitor in town. Miss Mary Benner of Vicksburg recently visited friends in this place. Mr. Clarence Catherman of Millmont, was a visitor in town one day latter part of last week. Druggist L.W. Hall was a business visitor at different points eastward several days last week. Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Rote of Lewisburg were in this place recently in their auto calling on friends.
Mrs. Ralph Smith and Mrs. Jas. Kissner, of up the country, were Mifflinburg shoppers one day last week. Miss Ethel Farley, student at Bucknell was last Saturday and Sunday the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.F. Farley of this place. Mr. Bert Galbraith of Milton’s energetic and leading citizens was a recent business caller in Mifflinburg.
And while here paid our office a welcome visit. Mr. John C. Haupt, of Cass, West Va. where he is extensively engaged in the lumber business spent a few days this week with his sister, Miss Mary Haupt, west Chestnut St. Mr. Harold Barber who is employed at Williamsport was last Saturday evening the guest of his mother, Mrs. Alice Y. Barber, and other home relatives and friends in this place.
In the Philadelphia daily papers we note with pleasure that Miss Hilda M. Schoch was one of a class of over 100 young ladies who graduated at the William Penn High School, that city on the 12th inst. taking a prominent part therein. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reno Schoch and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin L. Schoch of Philadelphia formerly of New Berlin. Miss Hilda’s friends in this section and they are many, extend her hearty congratulations and best wishes.
