HARTLETON NEWS, August 11, 1917: U.S. Civil Service Commissioner Charles M. Galloway, of Washington, D.C. was the guest of Attorney and Mrs. A.H. Bell at their summer home in this place a few days ago. Miss Maud Eyster of Sunbury was the guest of her friend, Miss Mary Catherman, during last week. Mrs. Cloyd Fiedler of Aaronsburg, spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Charles, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoffman and grandson of Baltimore, are spending some time at their home in this place.
Mr. E.E. Printzenhoff of Philadelphia spent Saturday night and Sunday with friends in Hartleton. Mr. Paul Charles of Harrisburg, spent a short vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Charles. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. S. Charles of Huntingdon spent Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. H. Charles. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Rote and little daughter of Lewisburg, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Mary S. Jones in Pine Grove. Misses Kathryn and Mary Bechtel of Lewisburg, were guests of their sister, Mrs. Charles Hofman for a few days.
Mr. P.M. Catherman took a trip by auto to Bellefonte on Friday to visit Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Bell. Mrs. Rebecca Bell is among the campers at Central Oak Heights. Messrs. Wesley Smith, G.S. Snyder, P.W. Sterling, Mrs. H.A. Steininger and Miss Dorothy McGinnes of Altoona, were the guests during part of Saturday and Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Steininger. Leon Vanatta was a business visitor in Mifflinburg Saturday. Quite a number of people from this place autoed to Woodward on Saturday evening to attend the big P.O.S. of A. festival at that place.
Mr. W.S. Leiby and family of near Lewisburg, visited with friends in Hartleton Saturday. Mr. A.K. Dieffenderfer of Buffalo Township, and Mr. Pharos Ranck, of White Deer Township, called on the voters in Pine Grove during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Catherman called on Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Burd on Sunday. Mr. J.J. Steininger attended the Central Oak Heights Camp Meeting the latter part of this week. Miss Mary Wilson visited Mr. & Mrs. Walter W. Packer while in Philadelphia.
FOREST HILL NEWS, August 11, 1917: Katie Koser of Milton is spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Koser of this place. Willard Aikey of Sulphur Springs had a well drilled one day last week. Anybody in want of a good wheel match should call on the ladies at Forest Hill. We are sorry to state that one of the little twin boys of George Pennycoff’s fell off the wagon and broke his arm in two places. Laury Lohr and wife, of Tanneytown, called on Edgar Cromley and wife one evening last week. Gertie Wohlheiter and Eva Miller called on Mrs. Floyd Erb last Sunday.
Mrs. William Kline and son made a business trip to Milton last Saturday. Mr. Hiram Hoyd and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oberdorf and children were the guests of Thomas Weary and family last Saturday evening. Bessie Koser, who is employed in Milton, spent over Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Koser. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Snyder and grandson, Donald, spent Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. William Kline. Mr. Edgar Cromley and wife have pleasing visitors this past week. Dora Kline and brother Edgar made a business trip to Cowan last Thursday. Mr. John Wagner had a bad mishap with his horse, it kicked two wagons in pretty bad condition one day last week. Loren Miller called in this place Wednesday evening. Mary Reitenbaugh called on merchant Miller and wife last Thursday.
Alma Zimmerman of this place, spent last week with her grandparents who reside in Cowan. Verna Koch called on Grace Zimmerman last Wednesday evening Mr. Manier Miller and Reuben Kline and children called on Thomas Weary and family last Wednesday. Clara Chappel of Shamokin, is spending a few days with Hiram Floyd and family. Mrs. John Harris called on her sister, Mrs. Wm. Erb last Thursday evening. Allen Kline, wife and grandchild and Pauline Troutman passed this place last Wednesday evening. Stephen Roadarmel purchased a fine lot of poultry from Levi Pennycoff, one evening last week.
Mrs. Clarence Ranck, of near this place, spent last Thursday with Jas. Lohr and family. Gertie Wohlheiter called on folks in this place last Wednesday. Anybody in need of good washing should call on Steve Roadarmel. Dorothy Pennycoff spent Sunday very pleasantly with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levy Pennycoff. Mildred Boyer, Verna Koch and Mary Beaver were callers in this place last Sunday evening. Mr. Raymond Winters was teacher of the S.S. class No. 6 last Sunday. Henry Straham passed through Mountain Park last Sunday in a new car. G.A. Zechman and family took in the carnival at Milton last Friday and Saturday night.
LAURELTON NEWS August 11, 1917: Mrs. Laura Mohn is now occupying her summer residence in this place. Miss Helen Pursley is visiting at the home of her uncle, Mr. Ed. Zimmerman at Shamokin. Mrs. Bertha Voneida and daughter, Susie, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray H. Voneida at Muncy. Mrs. S.W. Rutherford is visiting at the home of Rev, and Mrs. A.R. Turner of Orangeville. Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Burns and daughter, Miriam and Mr. and Mrs. Christ Burns of Stroudsburg, were the week end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F.B.Schnure. Miss Olive Wirth, formerly of Laurelton spent several days with friends in town. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Baker of Lewisburg, were Sunday guests of Mrs. Laura Mohn. Miss Ruth Silvius of Sunbury spent a week at the home of her brother, Mr. A.G. Silvius.
Mrs. Kate Oberlin and son Merrill, of Williamsport were recent guests at the home of S.W. Rutherford and family. Master Paul Johnson of Lewisburg is the guest of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alanson Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Boop and family of Glen Iron, were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Aumiller. Miss Ida Voneida spent several days with relatives in Hartleton. Mrs. Elizabeth Rohbach of Mifflinburg visited several days with her sister, Mrs. Amos Fauver. Laurelton was well represented at the P.O.S. of A. festival at Woodward. The “Sunshine” girls of the Lutheran sunday school will hold a festival on the school ground Saturday, August 18th. Music by the Laurelton Cornet Band. Everybody welcome.
