Feb. 18, 1943 — HARTLETON NEWS
The quarantine has been lifted from the Paul Sampsel home. Messrs. Paul Mitchell and James Wilson of Hartleton, and Robert J. Smith of the Township School board with others attended the Directors meeting in Lewisburg on Thursday. Kenneth Dunkleberger and family of Laurelton visited his brother-in-law Clair Ruhl and family, Wednesday evening. Mrs. Richard Diehl from the west end of the county spent last Wednesday with her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Diehl. Mrs. Catherine Ruhl and daughter, Miss Esther visited on Saturday with her sister, Mrs. Margaret Thompson in Mifflinburg. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cathaman and Mrs. Pearl Ranck of Williamsport were recent visitors of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Diehl.
Frank Printzenhoff, Jr. better known as “Sonny” who enlisted and was accepted by the Navy some time ago was called for duty and left for Philadelphia Thursday morning. Miss Elizabeth Fisher began work at Watsontown Thursday. Mrs. Ernest Printzenhoff is visiting with her daughter, Mrs. Charles Derrick in Sunbury. Mrs. Samuel Wilbur is visiting with Maryland friends. Mrs. John Shell of Milton was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Kate Ruhl last Friday. Miss Mary Schrader from the Laurelton State Village spent Thursday with her cousins, the Ross Fisher family. Miss Florence Dale spent last Thursday with her sister, Mrs. Charles Wehr and family in Lewisburg.
Effinger Lucas of York accompanied his nephew Donald Fisher to Hartleton Saturday and spent the week-end with his sister, Mrs. Ross Fisher and family. Mr. and Mrs. Florence Coxe was called to the home of his sister, Miss Alma Hoover Sunday morning by the death of Mr. Conrad, Saturday night. She spent the week with her sister. Pvt. Charles Hoffman, stationed somewhere in Mass. spent a week-end furlough with his wife and also visited a few hours Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoffman.
Rev. Stacy Roberts, D.D. will preach in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 1:30 P.M. Note the change in time. This has been made to accomodate Dr. Roberts enabling him to get home Sunday night.
PLEASANT GROVE— William Diehl spent Monday evening with Mr. and Mrs. William Stitzer. Mrs. Clarence Jordan called on Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jordan and family at Rand, Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. James Snyder, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Snyder attended the funeral of their brother-in-law, William Ely at Laurelton, Monday. Mrs. L. F. Dieffenderfer called on Mr. and Mrs. Donald Willow and family, Friday. Lloyd K. Zimmerman of Rand and Mrs. James Snyder assisted Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Boob and family to butcher on Tuesday. Clyde Englehart was a dinner guest of Elias Mookin Mifflinburg Friday. Dick Struble of Mifflinburg visited relatives in this place, Friday. William Diehl spent the week-end with Charles Aikey at Cloverdale. Mr. and Mrs. George Englehart and family spent Saturday evening with friends in Mifflinburg.
June 24, 1943 — GLEN IRON
Pvt. Alvin S. Miller, who is stationed at Camp Maxey, Texas and who is home on a 15 day furlough, returned Tuesday of this week. Pvt. Miller, his parents, and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller and son Larry of New Berlin were dinner guests at the Earl Solomon home, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. William Shaffer and granddaughter, Jean Dreese of Mifflinburg spent a few days with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Eisenhuth. Walter Zechman was a business visitor in Mifflinburg, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bingaman and son of Millmont were social callers at the John Boob home, Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Shively and son Carl of Sunbury were the welcome guests at the W.C. Shively home.
Victor Neese motored to Shamokin Saturday and home with a truck load of coal. Messrs. L.E. Yafel of Mifflinburg and L.H. Ruch of Laurel Park were business callers in town, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Jones of New Jersey were social callers here on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Susan, daughter Frances May of Hartleton, called on the Frank Susan family, Saturday. Mrs. G.D. Cook was a business visitor in Mifflinburg, Friday. Mrs. Paul Bilger and daughter, Betty returned home with her mother, who is on the sick list.
COWAN— Mrs. Kathryn Baker spent last week with her son, Harry Baker and family in Lancaster. Mrs. Hazel Klose and son George are visiting friends in Philadelphia. Miss Lucille Wagner of Harrisburg spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wagner. Misses Carrol and Donna Baker of Lewisburg are guests of their grandman Baker. Rev. J. Lichighter, wife and children of near Pittsburgh, are spending a few days with Mrs. Lichighter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shriner. Henry Wagner and family of Mifflinburg, RD were recent callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Swartz. Lee Boyer and family of Lewisburg spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George Boyer. Mary Elize Pentz of Red Top is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beck. Robert Shriner spent last week in NY and NJ.
VICKSBURG— Mrs. Charles Kauffman spent Friday afternoon with her aunt, Mrs. Sallie Benner. Mrs. Mary Wilbur of Penfield, NY was a social caller in town, Friday. Mrs. Wilbur was the former Mary Baker of town. Clarence Keister of Turbotville was a business caller in town Friday afternoon. The Women’s Missionary Society met at the home of Mrs. Myron Kleckner, Sunday evening. Mrs. Carrie Everitt entertained guests from Muncy, Sunday afternoon. C. C. Noll and J. Everitt were business callers in Milton, Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Shoemaker and son Robert of Meadville, Pa. are spending a few weeks at their home here. Mr. Shoemaker is assisting with the hay at the home of his mother. Robert Fulton of Philadelphia spent the week-end with his parents. Miss Kathryn Royer is spending several days in Glenolden with her brother William Royer and daughter, Connie.

Mr. and Mrs. Dreese Moyers and daughter Jean visited with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Stitzer in Mifflinburg, Saturday evening. Frank Snyder, Clyde Eyster and dreese Moyer attended the fox hunt at Hillsgrove on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bingaman and son Jack of Reading, Mrs. Clyde Stitzer, John Bingaman of Mifflinburg visited at the Dreese Moyer home Sunday. Miss Bertha Etzwiler of Lewisburg spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Chester Fox. William Swineford and family of Milton spent Saturday evening with Jacob Shively and family. Mrs. Fred Showalter called on Mrs. Kate Heller on Saturday evening. Mrs. Heller is still on the sick list. Mrs. Harry Kline and daughters Esther and Betty and Mr. Fensterbush of New Berlin visited relatives in Milton on Saturday evening. Mrs. Jacob Shively and sons, Pvt. William and Donald and George spent Wednesday evening with friends in Milton. Harry Kline spent Sunday evening with Rev. Greene Shively. Harry Vanatta has been confined to his bed for several weeks with pneumonia. Rev. and Mrs. S.B. Bidlack of Mifflinburg visited Mrs. Kate Heller on Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. Fred Shively returned from the Evangelical Hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks. Pvt. William Shively took supper Friday with Roy Graham and family. Mr. Herold and family moved from Maple Street to a large dairy farm below Sunbury. David Shively and family of Harrisburg and Pvt. William Shively and Donald Shively and little George took dinner Monday with their grandparents. Mrs. Lincoln Dorman visited her daughter Mrs. Ray Koonsman on Saturday. Miss Bessie Kerstetter who is employed at Williamsport spent over Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Kerstetter. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Aikey were callers in town on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. William Swineford and daughter Doris Mae of Milton and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ghingerich and Mrs. Rachel Catherman of Lewisburg spent Monday evening with Jacob Shively and family. Laird Shirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Shirk spent several days furlough with his parents. Harry Kline fell while oiling some bearings and painfully injured his arm and side Monday evening. Mrs. William Rowe of near Swengel was a caller in town on Wednesday. Donald Shively was a Mifflinburg business visitor on Friday. Pvt. William Shively spent from Sunday to Sunday afternoon with his parents, This was his first visit home since he left in October for Camp Barkely, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Catherman and son Junior of South Side visited Jacob Shively and family on Saturday afternoon. Lawrence Finsterbush spent over Sunday with Harry Kline and family. Charles Bingaman and Miss Carrie Swineford and Mrs. George Wert were Mifflinburg callers one day last week. Milford Catherman was a business visitor in town on Saturday. Miss Thelma Boop and sister Grace of near Ray’s Church were callers in town on Friday afternoon.
RAND NEWS— Mr. and Mrs. John Simonton, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Shambach and sons, Max and Ernest spent Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Feltman’s and family. Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Shambach and sons Max and Ernest spent last Thursday evening at the home of her parents at Summit. They also visited their niece, Marie Van Horn who was visiting with her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. John Simonton spent Monday evening at the home of W.J. Shambach and family. Marion Wirth spent a few days with her friend Edna Kahler. Cloyd Shambach from Middleburg helped his brother, W.J. Shambach, saw wood, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Winston Wiser and daughter of Muncy, called on her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Zimmerman and family on Sunday afternoon. John Moser of White Springs called on his daughter, Mrs. David Yohn and family on Sunday afternoon.
