Orval Ettinger
Orval Ettinger, 74, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove, where he had been a resident since Monday.
He was born July 30, 1933, in Beaver Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Calvin D. and Laura E. (Krebs) Ettinger. In 1952, he married the late Betty Smith, who passed away in 1968.
He had farmed earlier in life and worked for Hemp Brothers Construction, Zartman Construction, Lobar Inc. and R.S. Mowery Construction, and had worked with the local Amish for many years in local construction.
He enjoyed watching his grandchildren race, gardening, raising chickens and his rooster, and traveling.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Richard Hackenberg of Mifflinburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Crystal Ettinger; three grandchildren, Autumn, Candice and Zachary; two brothers, Galen of Beavertown and Quentin of Catawissa; a special friend, Martha Weader of Beavertown,; and his faithful dog, Teddy.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Terry in 1989, four brothers, Marlin, Kermit, Elwood and Rudolph, and two sisters, Gladys Wagner and Erma Kuhns.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Aurand Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with Pastor Bob Klingerman officiating.
The interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rescue Hose Fire Co., Ambulance Club, Sassafras St., Beavertown, PA 17813.
Dorothy R. Federici
Dorothy R. Federici, 72, of 220 Oak Grove Rd., Danville died at her residence Friday, March 28, 2008.
She was born April 22, 1935, in Glen Ridge, N.J., daughter of the late Sayward and Frances (Fairchild) Rowell. On July 19, 1958, she married Paul, who preceded her in death in 2005.
She grew up in Verona, N.J. and was a member of the Verona High School Class of 1953. Dorothy graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1957.
She lived in Denville, N.J. until 1991 and was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Denville. She was also a member of St. Joseph Church in Danville.
Dorothy enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, bird watching, playing cards, letter writing, traveling, and trips to the mall. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Tom Hanks and Frank Sinatra. Blessed with a fabulous sense of humor and a zest for life, Dorothy brightened the days of all those around her.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy and Eric Fahrman of Mifflinburg, Donna Federici and Maria and Jack Shoop, both of Danville; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Frances Federiciof Erie; nine grandchildren, Mandy, Ricky, Stacie, Allison, Andrew and Joey Fahrman, Katie Shoop, and Elizabeth and Amy Federici; two brother-in-laws, Werner Schanzenbach of New York, and Ernest and Roberta Federici of New Jersey; and her devoted caregiver for the past 11 years, Jen Mertz of Riverside.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Thomas in infancy, two grandsons, and her sister, Marianne Schanzenbach.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tues., April 1, at St. Joseph Church, 18 E. Center St., Danville. The Rev. Gerard Heintzelman, officiated.
Burial followed in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Nephrology Department, c/o Geisinger Medical Center, 100 Academy Ave, Danville, PA 17822 in Dorothy’s memory.
The family was assisted by the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville.
Natalie Youngman Chambers
Natalie Youngman Chambers, 82, of Rolling Hills Manor, Millmont formerly of Mifflinburg, passed away Easter morning, March 23, 2008.
A native of Danville, she was born Dec. 27, 1925, a daughter of the late Wilbert Charles and Louella (Youngman) Chambers.
Natalie was a direct descendant of Elias Youngman, Mifflinburg’s founder.
She was a 1944 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and attained perfect school attendance for 12 consecutive years. She eagerly awaited her class reunions.
Over the years, Natalie donated many gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. She was a great animal lover, especially dogs.
Natalie will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by a sister, Rosanna Chambers Davis of Lewisburg, two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Chambers Diehl.
Funeral services were held Fri., March 28, in First Presbyterian Church, Mifflinburg. John Rakow, lay pastor, officiated.
Burial was in Hilltop Cemetery.
The family asks that donations in Natalie’s name be made to either First Presbyterian Church, 507 Green St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844, or to PA P.E.T.S., P.O. Box 64, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
Pallbearers were Steven C. Diehl, David A. Diehl, Thomas M. Diehl, Andrew P. Schell and Todd R. Penman, and honorary pallbearer is David Y. Penman.
Funeral arrangements were by the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg.
