Charlie Raymond Styers
    Charlie Raymond Styers, 87, of 340 JPM Road, Lewisburg and formerly of 295 Shrawder Road, Mifflinburg, passed away at 10:37 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Hospital for Advanced Medicine in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
    He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in New Berlin, a son of the late Raymond and Isabelle (Walker) Styers. On June 16, 1945, in Richmond, Va., he married Louise Belle Whitlow who preceded him in death on March 18, 1999.
    In his youth Charlie was a Civilian Conservation Corps worker in Poe Valley. He served as an infantry rifleman in the Army during World War II and was wounded at Crion, France, on Sept. 29, 1944. He received the Purple Heart, the ETO ribbon, and two Bronze Stars. He recuperated in England and back in the States. In April 1945, he met his future wife, Louise, on a train going to Richmond and married nine weeks later. Their marriage lasted for 54 years.
    After the war he was employed as a garage mechanic in Richmond. He moved back to Pennsylvania in August 1949 and was a mechanic at Dan Henry Pontiac in Lewisburg. He later worked at Q.E. in New Berlin, and in 1958, began working at A.M.P. Inc., Selinsgrove, retiring in 1984.
    He was a member of the Buffalo Valley Two-Cylinder tractor club, American Legion Post 410, Mifflinburg, Disabled American Veterans, NRA, and the F.&A.M., Mifflinburg Lodge370.
    An all-around handyman, he enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors and hit-and-miss engines as well as metal and woodworking. He and Louise were CB radio operators and he also enjoyed ham radio.
    He is survived by his loving companion, Helen Stover, of Lewisburg and her family; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph A. and Cindy D,. of Mifflinburg, Steven W. and Kathryn Kopchik, of Mifflinburg, and Scott M. and Loren J., of Mifflinburg; five grandchildren, Joseph A. Jr., Brandy J., Kiera M. Davis, Austin, and Madison Belle; two great-grandchildren, Shayla K. Heimbach and Bon S. Styers; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Carson Dorman and Patricia and Ed Bastuscheck, all of Mifflinburg, and B. Irene Cowan, of Hartleton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Nelson and Judy Styers, of New Columbia, and Donald and Esther Styers, of Mifflinburg; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. One cousin, Harold Weller, of Lovettsville, Va.,, is married to Katherine Whitlow, the only sister of Louise.
    Funeral services were held Wed., Aug. 4,  at Schwartz-Adamo Funeral and Cremation Services, 247 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg. Pastor Andrew Fitch officiated.
    Interment will be in Hill Top Cemetery, Mifflinburg.

Charlotte Anne Cross
    Charlotte Anne Cross, 63, of 2526 Smoketown Road, Lewisburg since 1980, entered into rest at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at her home.
    She was born Sept. 22, 1946, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Chester E. and Audrey Jean (Smith) Briggs. On June 12, 1980, she married Leo A. Cross who survives.
    Charlotte was a 1964 graduate of Haverford High School.
    She was employed as a computer systems analyst at Fiberweb, Greenville, S.C. (fomerly International Paper).
    Charlotte attended Mifflinburg United Methodist Church. She was an active Girl Scouts volunteer and was the director of the Thunder Boomer Camp from 1995 — 2007.
    Charlotte enjoyed wildlife and was a Philadelphia Phillies fan.
    In addition to her husband of 30 years, she is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Stephanie A. Cross, of Philadelphia, and Samantha C. and David J. Ulrich, of Winfield; and one brother and sister-in-law, Chester E. Jr. and Mary K. Briggs, of Penn Yan, N.Y.
    There are no public funeral services planned at this time.
    Memorial contributions may be made in the memory of Charlotte to your local Girls Scout Troop.

Irene Victoria Zimmerman
    Irene Victoria Zimmerman, 86, of 10935 Route 304, Mifflinburg for 52 years, entered into rest at 10:05 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, where she had been a resident since August 2009.
    She was born July 21, 1924, in Snyder County, a daughter of the late Albert and Elsie (Herman) Moyer. On March 25, 1944, she married Hoyt Francis Zimmerman, who preceded her in death July 30, 1996.
    Irene was employed at Walnut Acres, Penns Creek, for 25 years. Earlier in life, she was employed at Chef Boyardee, Milton, and the Milton Shoe Factory.
    She was a member of the West End Senior Center, Laurelton.
    Irene enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, playing bingo and square dancing.
    She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Kay Zimmerman, of Mifflinburg, Richard H. and Susan A. Zimmerman, of Millmont, and Keith A. Zimmerman, of Mifflinburg; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda D. and Stoy A. Smith, of Middleburg, and Nancy L. Watson, of Freeburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Mahlon Boop, of Selinsgrove; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by one son, John F. Zimmerman, on July 27, 2007.
    Funeral services were conducted Wed., Aug. 4,  at the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg. Pastor Richard L. DeVett officiated.
    Burial was in Mifflinburg Cemetery.

James J. “Pop” Yoder
    James J. “Pop” Yoder, 68, of Lewisburg, passed away at 6:03 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his earthly home of apparent heart failure and has gone to his eternal reward.
    He was born Dec. 24, 1941, in Walnut Creek, Ohio, a son of the late Jacob and Orpha (Troyer) Yoder. He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour at the age of 17 and loved and served his Lord. On Aug. 3, 1963, he was married to Ruth R. Mullet, who survives.
    Pop was an active member and pastor of Christian Believers Fellowship, Lewisburg. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, church family and those he loved.
    Surviving, in addition to his wife of 47 years, are five children and their spouses, Nathan and Sadie Yoder, Martha and Marvin Peachey, Timothy and Lois Yoder, Dorcas Yoder and Linus Yoder, all of Lewisburg; seven siblings and their spouses, Edith and Andy Mullet, of Texas, Albert and Marie Yoder, of South Carolina, Edwin and Marylou Yoder, of Ohio, Robert and Cindy Yoder, of Ohio, Fran and Ivan Miller, of Florida, Sarah and Vernon Miller, of Ohio, and Hannah and Tom Bitticker, of Ohio; and 17 grandchildren, all of Lewisburg.
    Funeral services were conducted Sun., Aug. 1, at Shady Grove Christian Fellowship Church, 5327 Buffalo Road, Mifflinburg. Aaron Peachey, Bob Peachey, David Alspaugh and Andrew Mullet officiated.
    Burial followed in Christian Believers Fellowship Church Cemetery, Col. John Kelly Road, Lewisburg.
    Funeral arrangements were by the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.

Jackie “Jack” Murray Ulrich
    Jackie “Jack” Murray Ulrich, 54, of 17654 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont and lifelong resident of Hartley Township, entered into rest at 5:45 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2010, at home, with his wife at his side after a brief illness.
    He was born July 7, 1956, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Marlin and Naomi (Lamey) Ulrich. On March 27, 1983, in Millmont, he married the former Jewel B. Ramsey, who survives.
    Jack was employed for the past 13 years as a truck driver at Ritz-Craft Transportation, Mifflinburg.
    He enjoyed riding his Harley, and was a member of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.). Jack also enjoyed collecting guns, and spending time with his family, friends, and two dogs, Toby and Missy.
    Surviving in addition to his wife of 27 years, are one brother, John M. Ulrich, of Middleburg; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Alverna M. and Robert Boyer, of Millmont, and Sharon D. Ulrich, of Glen Iron; and one nephew, Harold E. Ulrich of Glen Iron.
    Funeral services were held Mon., Aug. 2,  at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg. The Rev. Richard M. VonNeida officiated.
    Burial was in the Hartleton Cemetery.
    All bikers that attended the funeral service were encouraged to ride their bikes in honor of Jack.

Jean K. Shambach
    Jean K. Shambach, 86, of Kissimmee Road, Middleburg passed away at 4:25 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove, where she was admitted on May 6.
    She was born April 15, 1924, in rural Middleburg, a daughter of the late Hoyt Henry and Mary Jane (Gill) Hackenberg. On June 19, 1948, she married Donald W. Shambach, who preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2009.
    Jean had been employed in area silk mills for 34 years. She had worked at the Middleburg Silk Mill, Huntingdon Throwing Mill, Mifflinburg, and Middleburg Yarn.
    She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Middleburg.
    Jean enjoyed quilting, dining out, going for drives in the country and dearly loved her grandchildren.
    She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Alice Shambach and Lorraine K. and Ivan Long, all of Middleburg; one son and two daughters-in-law, Earl J. and Nancy Bowersox, of Middleburg, and Donna Betsker, of Mifflinburg; two granddaughters, Faye Jean Betsker, of Mechanicsburg, and Michelle and William Romig, of Mifflinburg; three great-grandsons, Zach, Adam and Noah Romig; five sisters, Betty Zechman, of Penns Creek, Elva Mitchell, Esther Keister and Doris Walter, all of Middleburg, and Peggy Weikel, of Mifflinburg; and one brother, Barry Hackenberg, of Middleburg.
    She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth I. Betsker, on April 21, 2009; one sister, Martha Walter; and seven brothers, Nester, Howard, Verden, Rudolph and Sheldon Hackenberg and twins in infancy.
    Funeral services were held Fri., July 30,  at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg. The Rev. Alvin E. Smith officiated.
    Burial was in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Middleburg.

Harold W. Gearhart
    Harold W. Gearhart, 78, of 735 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
    Born March 17, 1932, in Lewisburg, he was a son of the late Harold C. and Madaline (Swartz) Gearhart. On July 21, 1956, he married the former Patricia J. Wagner, who preceded him in death on April 6, 2002, after 45 years of marriage.
    A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was employed by the former American Home Foods (now ConAgra) in Milton for 40 years.
    Harold was a life member of the Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post No. 182, Lewisburg, and the Society of 1st Infantry Division, and a member of the Ira B. Baldwin V.F.W. Post 1665, Milton. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, and was a big fan of the Phillies and the Eagles. Harold also enjoyed dining out and socializing.
    Surviving is one son, Richard W. Gearhart of Montandon.
    In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Gearhart, who died July 12, 2004.
    Memorial services were held Tues., Aug. 3,  at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second & St. Louis streets, Lewisburg. Rev. John E. Lee, pastor of West Milton United Methodist Church, officiated.
    Burial with full military honors followed in Mazeppa Cemetery.

Margaret C. Spigelmeyer Kunkel
    Margaret C. Spigelmeyer Kunkel, 94, of Schoch Street, Middleburg passed away at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
    She was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Middleburg, a daughter of the late Lewis and Anna (Lepley) Searer. In September 1936, she married Ernest L. Spigelmeyer, who preceded her in death in 1966. In 1980, she married Roy H. Kunkel, who died in 1981.
    Margaret attended Middleburg schools.
    After her marriage, she became the neighborhood mother to most of the children on her block for 11 years. They lived in the Spigelmeyer homestead before moving to Middleburg on Schoch Street, where she lived for the rest of her life. As a teenager, she worked as a waitress at the Hotel Middleburger and did baby-sitting and house cleaning. She was employed at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she did sewing and clothing repairs, and she was an auxiliary member at the time of her death.
    She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Middleburg, where she was active in church activities. She was active in the senior center at Penns Creek and was proud to be the oldest person attending there and was a life member of the Snyder County Historical Society.
    Throughout her life, she made many beautiful quilts and got some of the ladies at the senior center interested in making quilts, which they sold to raise funds. Margaret was an avid Phillies fan.
    She is survived by four children, Charles E. and Grace Spigelmeyer, of Selinsgrove, M. Bernice Wagner, of Paxtonville, Allen A. and Carol Spigelmeyer, of Northumberland, and Dale C. Spigelmeyer, of Middleburg; six grandchildren, Cathy Herrold and husband George, of Selinsgrove, Susan Wagner, of Paxtonville, Kim Spigelmeyer and wife Pat, of Brigantine, N.J., Lora Casteline and husband Don, of Sunbury, Joy Bedwell, of Marietta and Kelly Fisher, of Northumberland; six great-grandchildren, Brian and Lindsay Herrold, Tyler Casteline, Sierra and Andrew Bedwell and Jonathan Fisher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters, Itha Cornell and Susie Sprenkle; three brothers, Albert, Bruce and Merril Searer; and one son-in-law, Donald Wagner.
    Funeral services were held Tues., Aug. 2, at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg. The Rev. James W. Grubb officiated.
    Burial will be in the Paxtonville Cemetery.
