Tyler Matthew Bingaman
Tyler Matthew Bingaman, 19, of Shamokin Dam, passed away at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, on Route 204 in Penn Township of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born Aug. 30, 1990, in Lewisburg, a son of Bradley S. Bingaman of Mifflinburg, and Diann L. (Walter) Bingaman, of Shamokin Dam.
He had attended Selinsgrove High School where he was active in the FFA program.
He was employed at Witmer Farm’s Mount Pleasant Mills.
Tyler enjoyed hunting and attending tractor pulls and antique tractor shows, and spending time with his best friend, Kyle Swartzlander.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Nathan S. and Erin Bingaman, of Middleburg; one sister, Tamara N. Bingaman, of Selinsgrove; stepsister, Kayla Brouse, of Mifflinburg; maternal grandmother, Lucille Walter, of Mifflinburg; paternal grandmother, Shirley Bingaman, of Middleburg; step-mother, Lisa Bingaman; and two nephews, Aidan Lewis and Grant Bingaman.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Dale Walter, and paternal grandfather, Larry Bingaman.
Funeral services were held Tues., Jan. 12, at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove. The Rev. Nick Smith officiated.
Burial was in Wayside Bible Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
Sylvia M. “Millie” Peters
ylvia M. “Millie” Peters, 81, formerly of Beaver Springs, passed away at 10:38 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.
She was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Freeport, a daughter of the late Robert A. Sr. and Elva Belle (Sterwart) Dempster. On Oct. 10, 1953, she married Elwood C. Peters, who preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2005.
She was a 1947 graduate of Freeport High School.
Millie and her husband owned and operated Wood Designs, Inc. She was later employed as a sales clerk at Bon Ton, Selinsgrove.
She attended Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene.
Millie was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing and doing crafts and spending time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Laney and Bradley Shambach, of Lewisburg, Norma Jean Schreck, of Millmont, and Beverly and Jeffry Swinehart, of Lewisburg; six grandchildren, Shawn Swinehart and hsi fiancee, Wendy Balliet, Natalie Culp and her husband, Billy, Marci Dieffenbach and her husband, Rodney, Ashley Schreck and her fiance, Jeffery Delsite, Justin Schreck and his wife, Kim, and Damian Schreck-Britton; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan, William, Skylar, Kaitlyn, Tevy, Arianna, and Justin II; one sister, F. Jean Peppler, of Vandergrift; two foster sons, Kevin Graybill and his wife, Jill, and their two sons, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Todd Graybill and his wife, Monica, and his two sons, of Port Royal.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Schreck-Britton, five brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Tues., Jan. 12, at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown. The Rev. John Zechman officiated.
Burial was in Beavertown God’s Missionary Church Cemetery.

Dorothy Ann Walker
Dorothy Ann Walker, 86, of Elkhart, Ind. and formerly of Watsontown, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at 12:50 p.m. at Hubbard Hill Estates in Elkhart.
She was born March 3, 1923, in Union County, Pa., a daughter of the late Arthur N. and Margaret (Keister) Galer. She married Myron E. Walker on April 30, 1945 in Union County, who survives.
Dorothy owned and operated the Popcorn Shoppe along with her husband in the former Pierre Moran Mall from 1984 to 1989. Prior to that, they owned the Day Star Restaurant in Watsontown, from 1954 to 1959 when she and her family moved to Elkhart.
She was member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 599 in Elkhart.
Dorothy enjoyed working with the public and enjoyed all types of sports, especially Notre Dame football.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Alan E. Walker of Elkhart; one daughter, Kay I. Hoffman of Lewisburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Doris Galer of Middlebury, and Charles and Etta Galer, of Port Trevorton; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private burial will be held at Mifflinburg Cemetery, Mifflinburg, Pa.

Mary Bingaman Phillips
Mary Bingaman Phil-lips, 82, of 411 S. 22nd St., Lewisburg since 2001, formerly of Millmont, entered into rest at 7:10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
She was born July 6, 1927, in Hartley Township, a daughter of the late James Harrison and Mary E. (Lamey) Bingaman. In 1946 she married Donald E. Stroup, who preceded her in death. On May 3, 1972, at the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Millmont, she married Eugene F. Phillips, who survives.
Mary was a 1945 graduate of Laurelton High School.
She was employed as a matron for 25 years at the Laurelton State Center until her retirement in 1981.
Mary was an active lifetime member of the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Millmont, where she enjoyed assisting with the church food stand at the West End Fair, and serving meals at church functions.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Mary enjoyed playing bingo, hunting, and camping with her family along Penns Creek in Millmont, and the Grey Squirrel and Mount Nittany Campgrounds.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 37 years, are one daughter and son-in-law, Mary J. and Kenneth M. Roush of Bloomsburg; one stepdaughter, Deborah L. and her husband Douglas Stein of Lebanon; one granddaughter, Gwen R. and her husband David P. Utt of Bloomsburg; two stepgrandchildren, Brandy and Corey; two great-grandchildren, Ella and Lucas Utt; several stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, William, and Kenneth Bingaman; and three sisters, Carrie A. Camp, Pauline M. Bingaman, and Maranda A. Bingaman in infancy; and one stepdaughter, Sharon D. Phillips.
Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 11, at the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd., Millmont. The Rev. John D. Yost officiated.
Burial was in the Hartleton Cemetery.

Carol Dene Ruhl
Carol Dene Ruhl, 79, of Williamsport, formerly of Allenwood and Mifflinburg, died on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at the Gatehouse following a long illness.
She was born May 21, 1930, in Danville, a daughter of the late Franklin A. and Caroline M. (Raker) Heckman. She was married for 59 years to Fred R. Ruhl, who survives.
She was a 1948 graduate of Miffinburg High School.
She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Gregory D. Lessig, of Edinboro; one brother, Barry W. Heckman, of Reading; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael W. and Joyce Ruhl, of Mifflinburg, and Christian A. Ruhl, of Lewisburg; two daughters, Wendy L. Ruhl, of Mifflinburg, and Kathleen Ruhl, of Detroit; nine grandchildren, Joshua Ruhl, Shana Ruhl Wigo, Mervin Sauder Jr., Timothy Brungard, Celia Bourgeau, Brent Wagner, Matthew Keister, Laurie Keisther and Michael Keisther; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca A. Ruhl Keister, wife of Harold E. Keister, of Millmont.
A memorial service was held Sat., Jan. 9, at Faith Alliance Church, 2504 Bottle Run Road, in the Garden View Area of Old Lycoming Township, Williamsport. Pastor John Otto officiated.

Jane “Anne” (Youngman) Herald
Jane “Anne” (Youngman) Herald, 93, of Schell Road, Turbotville passed away on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at her home.
She was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Danville, a daughter of the late George Chambers and Katherine (Gearhart) Youngman. She was married to Howard Barth “Curly” Herald, who was killed in 1944 overseas during World War II.
She was a 1931 graduate of Turbotville High School and a 1936 graduate of Bucknell University.
She retired from Turbotville National Bank, where she worked for 32 years.
A historian, she was a direct descendant through her grandmother, Hannah Grier Youngman, of Gen. William Montgomery, the founder of Danville, and a direct descendant through her grandfather Youngman of Elias Youngman, the founder of Mifflinburg. Her other grandfather, Edward S. Gearhart, was a direct descendant of George Boone, brother of Daniel Boone.
She was the last member of the Warrior Run Church. A charter and life member of the Fort Freeland Heritage Society, she volunteered every Sunday at the historic Warrior Run Church when her health permitted.
She had a deep concern and devotion to animals and the environment and enjoyed playing bridge and solving crossword puzzles. She took great pleasure in her vegetable and flowers gardens.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be next to her husband and parents in the old section of Turbotville Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville.
