Margarete R. Kusin
Margarete R. Kusin, 89, a resident of RiverWoods and formerly of the Kelly Apartments, Lewisburg, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at the Hershey Medical Center.
She was born June 13, 1920, in Ober Taschelbach, Austria, a daughter of Gottlieb and Cazilia (Spielbichler) Roth.
Margarete was a farmer and inn keeper while in Europe. In Pennsylvania, she was employed by Bucknell University food services, a seamstress for the Premiere, and Furman’s Food, Northumberland.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting; and loved to cook, gardening and bird watching.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Viktor and Lucinda Kusin, of Sunbury; three daughters and one son-in-law, Melitta and Lee Hagenbuch and Dorothea Brown, all of Milton, and Mathilde Mahon, of Lewisburg; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one half sister, Dagmar Oberregger, of Austria.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ludwig Roth and Josef Roth; one half brother, Erwin Roth, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Wed., Jan. 20, at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. The Rev. Roux Erwin of Zion Lutheran Church, Turbotville, officiated.
Burial was in the Harmony Cemetery, Milton.
Ralph E. Smith Sr.
Ralph E. Smith Sr., 75, of Longer Road, Middleburg passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at 12:21 a.m. at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Jan. 24, 1934, in Milton, a son of the late Albert Sr. and Mildred (Yeager) Smith. On May 21, 1960, he married the former Sara Longer who preceded him in death.
He attended Sunrise school and was a veteran of the Army.
Ralph was employed by Asplundh and Eastern as a tree trimmer.
Ralph especially enjoyed farming and hunting.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Jr. and Tina Smith, and Kenneth and Ruth Smith, all of Middleburg; one daughter, Janet Aumiller, of Beaver Springs; six grandchildren, Nathan Aumiller, Amanda Borys, Mike Liddington, Michelle Benfer, Ashley Smith, and Shane Erb; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Abram Borys and Dalton Benfer; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Thelma Smith, of Lewisburg, William and Wanda Smith-Wert, of Sunbury, and Larry and Connie Smith, of Lewisburg; and five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley Fausey, of New Columbia, Helen Hess, of Lititz, Nancy Finan, of Mifflinburg, Patricia and Francis Dauberman, of Lewisburg, and Marion and Earl Rice, of Winfield.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services were held Wed., Jan. 20, at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown. The Rev. Thomas Adams Jr., officiated.
Burial followed in Zion Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
William Moran Wagner
William Moran Wagner, 90, of 271 Riverbreeze Ave., Winfield and a resident of Jacksonville, Fla., entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at 7 a.m. in Jacksonville.
Bill was the retired owner of W.M. Wagner Sales Co., Inc., Winfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Ricker (Clark ) Wagner on Jan. 28, 2004.
Funeral arrangements with inurnment will be in Chestnut Hills Cemetery, Union Township, Union County, will be announced at a later date.
The family is being assisted by the Schwartz-Adamo Funeral and Cremation Services, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg.
Sandra Diane Martin
Sandra Diane Martin, 48, of 466 Pardee Road, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at her home.
She was born May 30, 1961, in Sunbury, a daughter of George and Frances (Kalcich) Yost, of Sunbury. On Dec. 13, 1986, in Emmanuel Fellowship Church, Sunbury, she married attorney Robin S. Martin, who survives.
Sandra was a 1984 graduate of Pennsylvania State University.
She was a member of Hironimus Union Church, Weikert, and also attended West End Bible Fellowship Church, Laurelton.
Sandra enjoyed volunteering her time for various community organizations. Above all, her most special times were spent with her family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Dustin and Elizabeth Martin, Jason and Harrison; two grandchildren, Laine and Chad Martin; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Gordon McLauglin, Elaine and Barry Ulrich and Frances and Dr. John Boss; and one brother and sister-in-law, George and Cathi Yost.
She was predeceased by one brother, Vincent P. Yost.
Funeral services and burial were private and held at the convenience of the family.

The C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, assisted the family with arrangements.
Arthur K. “Art” Wert
Arthur K. Wert, 78, of 858 Sale Barn Road, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, Jan. 13, 2010, at his home.
He was born Sept. 14, 1931, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Rufus L. Jr. and Mary Ellen (Boop) Wert. On Jan. 28, 1950, he married the former Ruth J. Kerstetter, who survives.
Art was a 1949 graduate of Lewisburg High School.
Earlier in his life, he had been a technician for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He also had operated his own construction business, he farmed and he had been a livestock dealer and transporter. Following his retirement, he put to use his ability as a woodcraftsman, building a variety of wood products, from furniture to wooden model buildings.
He was a member of Winfield Baptist Church, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent and as a deacon and sang in the choir.
Earlier in his life, he was an avid hunter, and in his later years, woodworking was his passion.
The great joys of his life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 60 years, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald K. and Tina Wert, of Mifflinburg, and David E. Wert, of Middleburg, and Carolyn Wert, of Mifflinburg; four grandchildren, Scott, Eric, Melissa and Brian Wert; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Benjamin, Shiloh and Mackenzie Wert; and one sister, Janet Gotshall, of Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry A. Wert, in infancy; one sister, Nancy Willow; and three brothers, Donald, Roy and John Wert.
Funeral services were held Sat., Jan. 16, at Winfield Baptist Church. Pastor Corey A. Mitchell officiated.
Burial was in Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Mifflinburg.

Funeral arrangements were by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.
Miriam Elizabeth Mensch Bardo
Miriam Elizabeth Mensch Bardo, 89, of 891 Camino DuLuz, Green Valley, Ariz., since 1990, and a former lifetime resident of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, in Silver Springs, Ariz., following a brief illness. She was the widow of Wayne Kinney Bardo, who preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2005.

Shannon Renee Surface
Shannon Renee Surface, 23, of 10 JC Court, Middleburg entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.
She was born Oct. 27, 1986, in Hillsboro, Ohio, a daughter of Debra (Robinson) Grim, of New Berlin, and the late Timothy Surface.
Shannon was a 2005 graduate of Midd-West High School.
She was employed as a photographer at the Picture Me Portrait Studio, Selinsgrove.
Shannon enjoyed scrapbooking and sharing time with her son, Jordan.
Surviving are her parents, Debra S. Grim and Jeffrey S. Swanger, of New Berlin; her fiance, Nelson P. Coble, of Middleburg; one son, Jordan M. Coble, of Middleburg; three brothers, Derek E.R. Hall, of Ellsworth Air Force Base, N.D., Shane A.W. Hall, of Greenfield, Ohio, and Isaac Surface, of Lima, Ohio; one sister, Colleen D. Hall, of New Berlin; and her grandparents, Ed and Erma Surface, of Oregonia, Ohio, Lloyd and Phyllis Swanger, of New Berlin, and Charles and Janet Griffith, of Hillsboro, Ohio.
A memorial service was conducted Sat., Jan. 16, in Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Plum and High streets, New Berlin. The Rev. Roger K. Peters officiated.
Shannon’s family requested that all attending the memorial service were to wear something pink in memory of Shannon.
Interment was in New Berlin Cemetery.
