Michael G. Slease, 69, of North Court, Milton passed away on Tuesday evening, Jan. 17, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Dan-ville. He was born April 26, 1942, in Kittanning, a son of Dr. Cyrus B. and Ida Mae (Sherman) Slease. On May 14, 1966, in New Castle, he married the former Nancy Stone, who survives. He graduated from Elderton High School in 1960 and from Slippery Rock University in 1964 with a degree in health and physical education. He had attended the University of New Mexico for two years. His 20-year career with the YMCA included serving as physical director at YMCAs in New Castle, New Kensington and Meadville. In 1971, he became executive director of the Milton YMCA. Later, he owned and operated Fromm Security Agency for 18 years. He and his wife also operated Tomlinson Manor Bed and Breakfast in Milton for 15 years. Mike was an active community member. He was a former president of Milton Rotary Club, Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Society, Tiadaghton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and Northumberland County Historical Society. He led the recent effort to renovate the Fort Augusta Museum in Sunbury. He also served on the board of directors of Old Bedford Village and Fort Halifax Association. He was a founding member of the re-created 3rd Battalion Augusta Regiment, which actively portrays the French and Indian War era. He also educated school and civic groups and presented programs at the Army Heritage Education Center in Carlisle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Bryan Burns, of Haymarket, Va., and Jennifer and Chip Rearick, of Milton; five grandchildren who affectionately called him “Grumpy,” Whitney, Kellie Sue and Jackson Burns and Olivia and Peyton Rearick; one sister, Nancy Sharp, of Ottawa, Canada; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jayne Slease, of Southport, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, Robert and his wife, Nancy Stone, of Monroe, Mich., and Richard Stone, of Redford, Mich., one sister-in-law, Carol and her husband, James Irvine, of Warren, N.J.; his mother-in-law, Viola Stone, of Redford, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life was held Sat., Jan. 21, in First Presbyterian Church, Walnut Street, Milton. The Rev. Steve Shirk officiated. Kenneth E. Clinger Kenneth E. Clinger, 67, of Troxelville Road, Middleburg passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born Oct. 22, 1944, in Lewistown, a son of the late Charles and Rachel (Russel) Clinger. Kenneth attended Chief Logan High School. He had been employed for more than 20 years at Yorktown Cabinets, Mifflinburg. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting with neighbors for meals. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott A. and Tiffany Everly, of Middleburg; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Paul Clinger, of Middleburg; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby Clinger, of Pittsburgh, and Gary Clinger Sr., of Lewistown; four sisters, Bonnie Lou Clinger, of Oklahoma, Dotsy Clinger, of Selinsgrove, Helen Stuck, of Lewistown, and Betty Stuck, of Milroy; and his companion of more than 34 years, Linda Everly. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marlin and Dick Clinger. Funeral services were held Fri., Jan. 20, at Grace Covenant Church, Middleburg. Pastor Arden Steiner officiated. Burial was in Troxelville Union Cemetery. Contributions in Kenneth’s memory may be made to the Kenneth Clinger Benefit Fund established at Swineford National Bank to help defray funeral expenses. Arrangements were by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg. Katherine L. Brindel Katherine L. Brin-del, 82, of Woodward, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte. Kate, daughter of the late Marion Sampsell Kiethan and James Kahle, was born on March 19, 1929, in Hartley Township, Union County. On Dec. 21, 1945, she married Leo N. Brindel, who survives at their home on Jackson Hill Road. She attended school in Laurelton. Kate worked at the Laurelton Center as a field supervisor in charge of young women when the “Village” raised vegetables for its own use. When Laurelton discontinued this practice, she moved to the laundry department as a supervisor until her retirement. Kate was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Woodward. She was very dedicated to her church, where she sang in the choir and was involved in many other church activities. On Sunday mornings after her seven grandchildren would spend the night, Kate would pack them all up in the car and take them to church. She assisted in the making of apple dumplings for the Aaronsburg Fall Festival and supervised the dining room for the ham potpie dinners. The most important thing to Kate was Leo, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. Each one was special to her. At family gatherings, the youngest child always sat next to her in the high chair. Kate enjoyed the Grange Fair and could be found either at the camper or the bingo stand. She always saved her winning bingo coupons to get each grandchild a prize. We all will miss her terribly. In addition to Leo, Kate is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Paul Sampsell and Dixie and Scott Vogt, all of Centre Hall; seven grandchildren, H. Troy Sampsell, Kristine Smith, Traci Loner, Karen Roberts, Angela Auman, Lauren Boob and Michael Vogt; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Brindel, of Tunnel Hill, Ga. Kate was preceded in death by one son, Douglas H. Brindel, of Tunnel Hill, Ga., who passed away 34 hours before she did. Funeral services were held Sun., Jan. 22, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Woodward. The Rev. Cass Harbach officiated. Kate was laid to rest in Woodward Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.stevenrnefffuneralhome.com. Mary H. Dershem Mary H. Dershem, 69, of Dershem Lane, New Columbia passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at her home. She was born July 12, 1942, in Elizabeth, N.J., a daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret (Palmer) Snyder. She was married for 34 years to Simon Dershem Jr. before his death in November. Mary had worked at the Best Western in Lewisburg. She enjoyed making doilies and doing latch hooks and needlepoint. She is survived by six sons, Glenn Glozzer, of New Columbia, John Glozzer, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Robert Glozzer, of Watsontown, Mark Dershem, of Harmony, Simon Dershem III, of South Carolina, and Dennis Dershem, of Millmont; three daughters, Rachel Dershem, of Mifflinburg, Pauline Dershem, of Montgomery, and Ethel Hollenbach, of Watsontown; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilena Cicio, of New Jersey; and one brother, Emory Snyder, of Toms River, N.J. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Snyder, Roger Snyder and Arthur Fleming, and one sister, Edna Balzar. A graveside service was held Fri., Jan. 20, in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. The Rev. David E. King officiated. Arrangements were under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N.
