Lillian Kathryn Kahley
    Lillian Kathryn Kahley, 73, of 18600 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont and a lifetime resident of Hartley Township, entered into rest at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
    She was born Feb. 6, 1936, in Hartley Township, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Lyla Mae (Johnson) Pursley. On Jan. 31, 1953, she married Carl E. Kahley, who preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1994.
    Lillian attended Hartley Township schools.
    She enjoyed completing puzzles, reading, watching golf and watching her sons compete in drag racing. Lillian also enjoyed wildlife, including hummingbirds, and hunting and fishing in Union County.
    Surviving are five sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. and Crystal D. Kahley, of Millmont, Carl L. and Cynthia Kahley, of Port Trevorton, A. Scott and Belinda Kahley, of Millmont, William R. and Brenda Kahley, of Mifflinburg, and Andrew L. and Cathy Kahley, of Hartleton; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa L. and Tony Bishop, of Beaver Springs; one sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Howard Fertig, of Lewisburg; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Rochelle, Rochette, Aleah, Aaron, Tanelle, Derek, Amanda, Tracey, Kim, Brianna, Mikey and Faith; and 12 great-grandchildren, Lane, Trent, Savannah, Chloe, Colton, Riley, John Jr., Kali, Arianna, L.J., Katie and Braden.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, James Pursley, and one grandson, Andy Jr.
    There will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 30, in Hironimus Union Church, Weikert, with Pastor Richard DeVett officiating.
    Interment will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.

Irene M. Gemberling
    Irene M. Gemberling, 88, of 7938 Col. John Kelly Road, Lewisburg passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, in the emergency room at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
    She was born May 7, 1921, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the Rev. Merrill and Laura (Reish) Reitenbach. On Aug. 19, 1938, she married Richard E. Gemberling, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage before his death on April 28, 2002.
    Irene was a homemaker and a member of Mazeppa Union Church.
    She appreciated flowers and loved tending to her flower garden. She also enjoyed trips to the family cabin, Dark Hollow Camp.
    Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald E. and Joan D. Gemberling, of Lewisburg, M. Edward and Carol M. Gemberling, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., and Gary L. and Janet M. Gemberling, of Lewisburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Merlyn and Mafalda Reitenbach, of Montandon, and Carl and Alice Reitenbach, of Lewisburg; one sister, Myrtle Crabb, of Lewisburg; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her husband she was predeceased by two infant sons, Freeman E. and Tommy A. Gemberling; one granddaughter, Cynthia Lloyd; two brothers, John and Roger Reitenbach; and five sisters, Beatrice Mook, Hazel Gemberling, Florence Lilly, Margaret Mack and Dorothy Houdeshell.
    Funeral services were held Sat., Jan. 23,  at Mazeppa Union Church, 3200 Johnson Mill Road, Lewisburg, where the service will be held at 12:30, officiated by her pastor, the Rev. Ricky A. Phillips.
    Burial will follow in Mazeppa Union Cemetery.
    The family is being assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.

William “Bill” Moran Wagner
    William “Bill” Moran Wagner, 90, of  Riverbreeze Ave., Winfield, and Jacksonville, Fla., died peacefully at 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at Westminster Woods Retirement Community, Jacksonville, Fl where he has resided since Sept. of 2000.  The Wagner family has maintained its home along the Susquehanna River in Winfield since 1947.
    Born on Oct.15, 1919 in Fairmont, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Francis E. and Estella Shellart Wagner.  Bill married Olive R. Clark, on September 18, 1943 at Camp Rucker, Al and celebrated 60 years of marriage before her death in 2004.
    In 1937 he graduated from East Fairmont High School in Fairmont, WV. He entered the U.S. Army transferring to the Army Air Force in 1942 serving until his honorable discharge on December 20,1945 at Randolph Field, TX and went on to graduate from Bucknell University Class of 1949 with a B. S. in Chemical Engineering.
    Bill was the retired owner and founder of W.M. Wagner Sales Co., Inc., Winfield.  The business began out of his home in 1952 as pump and pipe sales and service to area coal mines. Because of Bill’s reputation for service 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, the business grew and moved to the old Winfield RR station and then to the Old Stone Barn. Wagner Sales began pump fabrications to serve various paper companies and industrial applications. In 1961 Wagner Sales Co was built on RT15 in Winfield. Before Bill retired in 1987, Wagner Sales had branch offices in Carrolltown,  PA and  Washington, PA serving western PA and Ohio and in Kingmont, WV. He was a leading distributer of Goulds and later Flygt Pumps. In 1979 Wagner Sales had sold the most Flyt pumps in the US in Flyts 22 year history. Wagner Sales employed many Winfield and area residents over the years as well as giving back to the community by donating manpower to the Winfield Volunteer Fire Co and yearly Fireman’s Festival.
    He was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Winfield where he taught Men’s Sunday School Class for many years.
    Bill received numerous Industry awards for exceptional sales and service. He was a member of the Lewisburg School Board for 12  years, serving in various roles including President; member of Lewisburg Rotary Club (President 1974-1975); member of the ELKs; host family for International Rotary exchange student; instrumental in the early years of Union Township Fire Co. and served in many roles including President, and Vice President;  General Chairman of the Winfield Fireman’s Festival; and a member of the Bucknell Golf Club.  
    Bill’s interests included golf, fishing, hunting,and spending time at his cabin on Meddybemps Lake in Maine.
    Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law; Becky and Mike Hyman of Middleburg, FL,  Diana Phillips of Nottingham, NH, Pat and Bob Brockley of Carlisle, PA; one sister, Mary Jane Webner of Charleston, WV; six grandchildren and spouses, Jeff and Julie Hyman of Chandler, AZ; Kim and Chris Potter of Middleburg, FL: Tiffany and John MacKay of Dracut, MA; Richard Phillips of Nottingham, NH; Megan and Will Perkins of Poole, England; Melissa Brockley of Olympia, WA; five great grandchildren, Christopher Hyman, Jennifer Hyman, Kaitlin Potter, Iain MacKay and Oliver Perkins.
    In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three brothers; Francis, George, and John Wagner; two sisters, Elizabeth Conley and Gretchen Stewart.   
    A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am, Sat., Jan. 30, in Trinity United Methodist Church, Winfield.  Rev. Larry Siikenan, officating. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 10-11 at the church prior to the Service.  Following the service a reception will be held in the church's fellowship hall.
    Interment will be in Chestnut Hills Cemetery, Union Township, Union County.

Paul Raymond Zyry
    Paul Raymond Zyry, 69, of Kramm Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Watsontown since 1999, formerly of Coal Township and Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at the nursing home.
    He was born June 11, 1940, in Shamokin, a son of the late Michael and Kathryn (Weinhoffer) Zyry.
    Paul was educated in Coal Township schools.
    He was a member of St. George Mission Church, Mifflinburg.
    Surviving are one sister, Barbara A. Zyry, of Mifflinburg; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert Zyry, of Watsontown, and Michael and Darlene Zyry, of Middleburg; two nieces, Ruth and her husband, Mark Nolan, of Mifflinburg, and Michelle and her husband, Phil Allabaugh, of Middleburg; and four grandnieces, Abby and Erin Nolan and Tara and Trish Weber, all of Mifflinburg.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Louise Zyry.
    A memorial Mass was celebrated Sat., Jan. 23, in St. George Mission Church, 999 Forest Hill Road, Mifflinburg, with Monsignor William Richardson as celebrant.
    Interment was in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg, at the convenience of the family.

Verna Veleria Beck
    Verna Veleria Beck, 93, of 6422 Old Turnpike Road, Vicksburg for the past 55 years, entered into rest at 2:58 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
    She was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Woodward, a daughter of the late James and Elsie (Benner) Smith. She was married for 55 years to Franklin A. Beck, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1997.
    Verna was a member of Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg. She formerly was a member of Cowan Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
    Verna enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers at her home. She was a member of the Vicksburg Flower Club.
    She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald F. and Jennifer L. Beck, of Mifflinburg; one granddaughter, Crystal A. Hoffman, of Milton; and one great-granddaughter, Brianna Beck.
    She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Tyler Hoffman, and eight brothers and sisters.
    A graveside service was conducted Sat., Jan. 23, in Mazeppa Union Cemetery. The Rev. Michael C. Romig officiated.
