Howard James Frey Jr.
Howard James Frey Jr., 59, of Beaver Springs, has gone to his eternal rest on Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2012, at his home after a grim two months’ resistance against advanced liver cancer.
He was a 1970 graduate of Penn View Bible Institute in Penns Creek.
In his earlier years Howard was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Sunbury.
He made his living as a carpenter for the housing industry, working 15 years at Poloron Homes in Middleburg and the past 25 years for Brookside Homes in Selinsgrove.
Howard found great pleasure in the traditions of hunting and fishing, and shared abundantly with his family and friends the game he took and the stories of how he took it.
In his work and in his recreation, Howard placed high value on integrity, ethics, and living by his convictions. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his ever-analytical mind, his disdain for nonperformance in man or machinery, his practical and ingenious solutions to complex problems, his unerring accuracy with both weapons and wit, and his inordinate pleasure at having the last laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judith Lynn (Griffiths); their two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Thomas Bergman, of Budd Lake, N.J., and Jody and John Stoddard, of Craftsbury, Vt.; and three grandchildren, Jason, Phoebe, and Verna Stoddard.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Howard J. Frey and Elizabeth (Erb) Frey.
Friends and family were received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed., Jan. 4, at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg. A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain Road God’s Missionary Church, Penns Creek, with the Rev. John W. Zechman officiating.
Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery, Penns Creek.
Memorial donations in Howard’s memory may be made to Penn View Bible Institute, P.O. Box 970, Penns Creek, PA 17862.
