Peter A. Cautilli
Peter A. Cautilli, 82, of Lewisburg and Bradenton, Fla., passed away at his home on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. He was a resident of Lewisburg for 45 years until he moved to Bradenton in 2001.
He was born June 4, 1928, in Philadelphia.
Peter served in World War II and received an honorable discharge from the Army on March 15, 1948. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for Japan.
He received his bachelor of science degree from East Stroudsburg State College and his master’s from Bucknell University.
He was a guidance counselor at Mifflinburg Area High School, Mifflinburg.
Peter was a life member of American Legion Post 182, of Lewisburg, and a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Kirby Stewart Squadron 24, Bradenton, Voiture 40 et 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charity Lodge 144, Free & Accepted Masons, of Lewisburg, Ancient Accepted Order of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Williamsport, and the Loyal Order of Moose, of Milton.
Peter enjoyed fly-fishing, studying American history, reading, watching movies and cooking. He loved to talk about his life experiences and touched many with his colorfully detailed tales. He volunteered his time to perform military services for the American Legion and the 40 et 8. He loved his country, his family and his friends.
He is survived by one brother, Dr. Richard A. Cautilli, of Pennsylvania; one sister, Gloria McLain, of Indiana; two children, Carol Cautilli-Schnelle, of Florida, and Peter Cautilli III, of Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Allison Cautilli and Peter Cautilli IV, both of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean F. Cautilli, and his sister, Olga (Bonnie) Overcash, of North Carolina.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Lewisburg American Legion Honor Guard at 3 p.m. Sat., June 5, by the banks of the Susquehanna River in Lewisburg.
Shirley J. Pick
Shirley June Pick, 78, of 108 Mifflin Place, Mifflinburg since 1995, and formerly of Market Street, entered into rest at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at her home.
She was born May 29, 1932, in Northumberland, a daughter of the late Asher and Catherine (Sanders) Snyder. On Nov. 13, 1957, she married Bruce S. Pick, who preceded her in death on May 7, 1993.
Shirley was employed at Yorktowne, Inc., Mifflinburg. Earlier in life she was employed at Huntington Throwing Mills, Mifflinburg, Furman Foods, Northumberland, Iron Skillet, Shamokin Dam, and D & W Cafe, Glen Iron.
She enjoyed completing puzzles and playing cards and dominoes. Shirley enjoyed going to the farmers’ market with her family.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard A. and Maretta Pick, of West Milton, and Daniel E. and Tammy Pick, of Beavertown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carole A. Ramsey, of Mifflinburg, and Diana M. and Robert Forbes, of Winfield; one sister, Jane Yeager, of Sunbury; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Stanley W. Pick; two daughters, Shirley M. Horner, and Crystal L. Snyder; six brothers, Harold, Leonard, Marlin, Lewis, Frank and Robert; one sister, Charlotte Snyder; and one great-grandson, Ryan Pick.
Funeral services were held Wed., June 2, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg. Pastor John E. Lee officiated.
Burial was in the Lincoln Chapel Cemetery.
Edith K. Schell Bly
Edith K. Schell Bly, 85, of Lewisburg, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital.
Born July 9, 1924, in Lewisburg, she was a daughter of the late George P. and Helen M. (Boyer) Schell.
Edith was a member of the Union County Library and she enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.
Surviving are a daughter, Schelly B. Homan; a granddaughter, Trisha Homan DiGenova; a great-granddaughter, Sophia Mary DiGenova; and a brother, Paul D. Schell.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Memorial services will be held at the discretion of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, American Red Cross, Women’s Humane Society, or the Union County Library.

Joyce J. Yerger
Joyce J. Yerger, 70, of 8777 Route 204, Winfield passed away at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at her home.
She was born July 18, 1939, in Monroe Township, Snyder County, the daughter of the late Elmer and Josephine “Teany” (Lenig) Mull. On July 2, 1960, she married Arthur L. Yerger, who survives.
Joyce was a 1958 graduate of Selinsgrove High School.
She had been employed at Dauberman’s Drive Inn, Kratzerville, and the American Rescue Workers, Selinsgrove. She and her husband provided a photo service at area race tracks and operated A&J Variety Store at their home.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kratzerville, and served as assistant leader for Kratzerville Girl Scouts for many years.
Joyce enjoyed designing and building floats for the many parades the Girls Scout entered. She also served as a Den Mother for the Kreamer Cub and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed playing cards, doing crafts, reading, collecting dolls and antiques, attending yard sales and flea markets, taking trips to Canada to go fishing and spoiling her grandchildren. Joyce also enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to the races. She liked watching TV, especially westerns and game shows. She was comforted in her last days at home by her family and her faithful companions, her dog, Dixie, and her cats, Stinky and Tipsey.
In addition to her husband of nearly 50 years, she is survived by five children and their spouses, Dane and Melissa Mull, of McClure, Dean and Susan Mull, of Middleburg, Karen and Steve Miller, of Penns Creek, Tina and Rick Sholter, of Selinsgrove, and Joy and Jeff Leitzel, of Thompsontown; 10 grandchildren, Kevin, Ashley, Shane and Brittany Mull, Alysia and Chad Miller, Joshua Frank, Jacob Sholter and Clay and Colton Leitzel; one sister-in-law, Gloria Mull; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one infant daughter; one granddaughter, Melissa Wagner; and two brothers, Gary and Donald Mull.
At Joyce’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends and family will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 10 with the Rev. Breen Marie Sipes officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Kratzerville.
Charlotte L. Hovenstine
Charlotte L. Hovenstine, 51, of Pleasant Grove Road, Mifflinburg, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where she had been a medical patient.
Born Feb. 3, 1959, in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of the late Emerson “June” Koser and Mae A. (Gibbony) Hovenstine. She was raised in White Deer by her parents, Jay A. and Mae Hovenstine, and Emerson Koser.
Miss. Hovenstine had attended Milton schools.
She was a certified nurse’s assistant. She had worked at Leader Nursing Home, Sunbury, Penn Lutheran Village, Selinsgrove, and had provided private care for area families. She was ordained as an interfaith pastor.
Miss. Hovenstine had attended Faith Chapel United Methodist Church and its girls Sunday school class as a child.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, being outdoors, crafts, ceramics, Nancy Drew novels, and animals, especially her pet cats.
Miss. Hovenstine is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J.E. Scott and Nicole Smith of White Deer, Seth A. Scott and Amanda Hunselman of Mifflinburg and Korey A. Scott and Tiffany Steiner, of Erie; four grandchildren, Lilian Mae Marie Scott, Kameron William Lee Scott, Dominic Michael Allen Scott and Logan Trilynski; and two sisters, Sandra M. Craver, of Montgomery, and Catherine Metzger, of Watsontown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald T. “Boppy” Hovenstine.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public viewing and she will be cremated. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the care of Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main Street, Watsontown.
