Ruth Mae Kline
Ruth Mae Kline, 66, of 707 Water St., New Berlin passed away at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008, at home with her husband, Earle, and her granddaughter, Ruth A. Kyttle, whom she raised, at her side following a 19-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born March 23, 1941, in Nanticoke, a daughter of the late Albert and Blanche (Rumberger) Mitchell. On Jan. 11, 1969, in Langhorne, she married Earle R. Kline, who survives.
Ruth retired in 2006 from Paper Magic Group, Elysburg. Earlier in life, she worked at Middleburg Yarn and Eastern State School and Hospital, Feasterville.
Ruth was a member of Three Rivers Union Church, Beaver Springs, and recently attended Port Ann Wesleyan Church, Middleburg.
Ruth enjoyed crocheting and listening to southern gospel music, and she loved the Lord. She recently crocheted a breast cancer afghan and donated it to the American Cancer Society.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Kevin P. Kyttle of Roanoke, Va.; one stepson, Kenneth Kline of Nevada; two stepdaughters, Wanda Marrone of Collegeville and Cindy Dodson of Fairless Hills; one brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Dorothy Mitchell of Langhorne; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbra and Richard Klinger of Madison, Wis.; nine grandchildren,; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pearl and Richard Snook of Benfer and Gloria and Larry Hackenburg of Millmont; and a brother-in-law, Bob and Edna Kline of Beaver Springs.
She was preceded in death by one son, Albert E. Kyttle, and one half sister, Marlene Lessard.
Memorial services were held Wed., March 19, at Port Ann Wesleyan Church, 2856 Troxelville Road, Middleburg. The Rev. Paul Sheets and the Rev. John W. Moyle officiated.

Arrangements were entrusted to Schwartz-Adamo Funeral and Cremation Services, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg.
Eunice Peters
Eunice Peters, 87, of Sunbury, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services.
She was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Swengel, a daughter of the late Irvin and Myra (Cole) Herendeen. Her husband, Harold E. Peters, preceded her in death on April 10, 1999.
She graduated from Mifflinburg High School and worked as a sales clerk for JC Penney in both Sunbury and after the store moved to the mall, retiring in 1983.
Eunice was a member of Reformed Baptist Church, Lewisburg.
Surviving are two children, Nancylynne Miller of Sunbury and Michael L. Peters of Lynchburg, Va.; two grandchildren, Brian M. Peters of Shiremanstown and Jonathan A. Adams of Northumberland; four great-grandchildren, Michael D., Katlyn E., Brian M. Jr. and Christopher D.; one sister, Mary Louise Wilson of Lewisburg; one brother, Paul Herendeen of Levittown; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were two brothers, Norman and Phillip, and two sisters, Irene Blyer and Lois Daye.
There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., March 22, in Reformed Baptist Church, Lewisburg, with the Rev. Les Clemens officiating.
A private burial will be in Old Cedar Cemetery, Swengel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Reformed Baptist Church, 830 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
Arrangements were made by the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury.
Harold L. “Red” Schreckengast
Harold L. “Red” Schreckengast, 89, formerly of 500 Shikelimo Lane, Lewisburg, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where he resided the past year.
He was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Millmont, a son of the late Cyrus and Minnie (Rhepard) Schreckengast. His wife of 55 years, the former Genevieve J. Campbell, died April 16, 2002.
A 1935 graduate of Mifflinburg High School, he served in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II.
After more than 30 years of employment, he retired in 1983 from the Engineering Department at ACF Industries, Milton.
Harold was a longtime member of Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg.
An active member of the Masons, he was a Past Master of F&AM Lodge 144 Charity Lodge, Lewisburg, where he also served as Secretary for many years, and achieved 33rd degree status. In addition, he was a member of the Williamsport Consistory, the Red Cross of Constantine, Mt. Hermon Commandry, Milton Royal Arch Chapter 298, and Valler Champ Council 25.
In past years, Harold was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed working in his basement workshop.
His only immediate survivors include nieces, nephews and a cousin.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard, Keith, William and Clifford, and one sister, Lois Hoffman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs., March 20, at his church, 42 S. Third St., Lewisburg, officiated by his pastor, the Rev. Brian D. Vasey.
Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the memorial fund of Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, 42 S. Third St., Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family was assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
Bernice Margaret Sanders
Bernice Margaret Sanders, 82, of 1470 Kaiser Run Road, Millmont entered into rest at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, where she had been a resident since February 2nd.
She was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Snyder County, a daughter of the late Sherman and Lizzy (Herman) Beaver. On June 10, 1950, in Port Royal, she married Henry M. Sanders, who survives.
Bernice was an active charter member of the Christ United Lutheran Church, Millmont. She enjoyed helping with preparing dinners at the church and also the West End Fair.
Bernice was a homemaker and also assisted her husband with work on the family farm.
She was a member of the West End Homemakers Group, Union County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, and was judge of elections for Lewis Township for many years.
Bernice enjoyed outside activities in the spring, including gardening and attending to flowers at her home.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of nearly 58 years, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim A. and Sandy S. Sanders of Millmont, and Donald E. and Dalene K. Sanders of Mineral Point, Wis.; four grandchildren, Amy J. Throne, Matthew J. Sanders, Nathan L. Sanders, and Jeffrey A. Sanders; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Justin Catherman.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Beaver; and one sister, Norma G. Swartzlander.
Fuernal services were held Mon., March 17, at the Christ United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont. The Rev. John Yost officiated.
Burial was in the Ray’s Church Cemetery, Lewis Township.

Ivan Gray “Ike” Miller Jr.
Ivan Gray “Ike” Miller Jr., 79, of 512 Old Orchard Lane, Mifflinburg entered into rest at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at his home.
He was born June 7, 1928, in New Berlin, a son of the late Ivan G. Sr. and Florence T. (Solomon) Miller. On July 27, 1949, in New Berlin, he married the former Dharlys E. “Dolly” Doebler, who survives.
Ike attended Lewisburg High School.
Ike honorably served in the Navy during World War II from June 28, 1945, until his honorable discharge Nov. 15, 1947. He then honorably served in the Army from Oct. 11, 1948, until his honorable discharge Dec. 21, 1949.
Ike was employed for 27 years as an inmate service officer and correctional officer at the U.S. Penitentiary, Allenwood and Lewisburg.
He was a member of Cowan Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1964, Mifflinburg, the Disabled American Veterans, a 60-year member of New Berlin American Legion Post 957 and a member of the Union County Sportsmen’s Club, Millmont.
Ike was a Penn State fan and was a member of the Nittany Lion Club.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ike enjoyed cooking meals every Sunday at his home for his entire family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 58 years, are three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane D. and Eugene L. Manbeck of Mifflinburg, Judy M. Moyle of Milton and Cathy M. and Arthur L. Newbury of Northumberland; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Erma and Robert VanHorn of New Berlin, Connie and William VanHorn of New Berlin and Susan and Anthony Solomon of Winfield; seven grandchildren, Jodi Bailor, Cristy Snyder, Michael Snyder, Nikki Straub, Josh Newbury, Jeremy Newbury and Jennifer Moyle; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bailor, Emily Bailor, Zachary Newbury, Colton Newbury, Christopher Straub, Ryan Straub and Kayleigh Moyle.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Miller, in infancy, and Patsy Royer; and one brother, Marvin Miller.
A memorial service was conducted Sat., March 15, in the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg. The Rev. John Yost and Vicar Nathan Winterhof officiated.
Interment was in Mifflinburg Cemetery with military honors by New Berlin American Legion Post 957 and Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.

Alice “Gertie” Vanatta
Alice “Gertie” Vanatta, 64, of Bloomsburg, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer of more than five years.
Alice was born in Danville on April 26, 1943, a daughter of the late Robert and Elsie (Prowant) Hackenburg. She grew up in the Milmont area, where she met and married her best friend and loving husband, Harold, with whom she celebrated a 48th wedding anniversary on March 5.
Early in her life, Alice lost her beloved daughter, Barbara Vanatta, and older brother, Kenneth Hackenburg.
Continuing the fond memories of Alice are her husband, Harold; son, Mark, and his wife, Robin, of Washingtonville; daughter, Karen Mowery of Washingtonville; daughter, Wanda Sitler, and her husband, Jim, of Berwick; son, Jeffrey, and his wife, Candy, of Mifflinville; son, Michael, and his wife, Autumn, of State College; grandchildren, Jennifer, Lacie, Tony, Breanne, Tanner, Tayler, Morgan, Michael, Colby, Bryan and Nathan; siblings, Sis Styer and her husband Donnie of Mifflinburg, Peggy Sauers and her husband Ralph of Fort Mills, S.C., Bonnie Scholl and her husband Richard of Port Treverton, Harry “Bud” Hackenburg and his wife Joanne of Beavertown, Anne Robbins and her husband Ronald of Milton, Nancy Pursley and her husband James of Mifflinburg, June Buoy and her husband Donald of Laurelton; and sister-in-law, Mary Agnes Hackenburg. Alice will be most missed by her beloved dog, Winston, who was always by her side.
Alice especially enjoyed being around family and friends. She was at every athletic event and competition of her children and grandchildren and never missed a birthday celebration with “the sisters” or the Hackenburg family reunion, where she was often called upon to make her famous baked beans.
One thing Alice enjoyed most was Penn State football games and tailgating, where her specialties were soups and desserts. Even on the hardest of days, you would still find her sitting in section WBU, row 41, seat 11, at Beaver Stadium, where “Joe Pa” always put a smile on her face.
Alice loved spending time with Harold, whether it was camping, traveling, cooking or watching endless hours of the Cooking Channel.
Alice belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Mainville, where she had been a faithful member for the past few years. She would even cut football weekends short to be home in time for Sunday services. She enjoyed the congregation of the church, especially the dinners, where she could showcase her cooking talents and spend time with her friends.
Funeral services were held Sat., March 15, in Emanuel Lutheran Church, 320 Church St., Mainville. Her pastor, the Rev. Stanley L. Bower, officiated.
A graveside service followed, where Alice was laid to rest next to her daughter in Hartleton Cemetery, Hartleton.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Columbia County Chapter, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
The family was assisted by the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick.
