Gary N. Beery
Gary N. Beery, 79, of 371 Wenner Road, Lewisburg died peacefully at his home in the presence of family at 1:50 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009.
He was born Aug. 4, 1929, in Lansing, Mich., a son of the late L. Wayne and Geraldine R. (Burkman) Beery. He was married to the former Jacqueline “Jacque” M. Crimmins, who survives. They observed their 53rd wedding anniversary on March 17.
He was a 1947 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, received his bachelor of science in Education from Ferris State College, Big Rapids, Mich., and his masters degree from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.
Gary was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving as a Sgt. In the Army Signal Corp stationed in the Philippines. In the military he developed a passion for photography.
Discharged in 1955 Gary taught school for seven years in the Howard City, Mich. public school system.
Gary had a natural affinity for people-he was a born salesman. Upon leaving the teaching profession he began a sales career with Wickes Lumber which brought him to Pennsylvania. In 1978 he founded Beery Building and Components, Inc. The successful pole type construction business was operated by Gary and his wife until their retirement in 1999.
Gary served as a Lay Speaker. For over 12 years Gary and his family participated in religious services at Marlow Hall, RiverWoods, Lewisburg where he often lead the singing.
He enjoyed RVing and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and the Scandinavia Countries.
Raised in farm country Gary had a love of a vintage farm equipment, horse drawn vehicles and pig memorabilia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ruth A. Beery at home; one son, Gregory W. Beery of Philadelphia; one grandson, Brandon W. Beery of Sunbury; and one brother and sister-in-law, William and Nancy of Athens, Ga.
Gary and his wife were extremely fond of their foster son, Roy Matthews of Sparta, Mich., whom they helped raise.
A memorial service celebrating Gary’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Marlow Hall, RiverWoods, Lewisburg. Chaplain Jerome Haupt will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be held at the families’ convenience in Reynolds Cemetery, Howard City, Mich.

Stephen “Taz” Edward Bradley
Stephen “Taz” Edward Bradley, 64, of 988 New Berlin Highway, Middleburg entered into rest peacefully with his loving and devoted wife by his side on Saturday morning, May 9, 2009, at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.
Daniel T. Sachse
Daniel T. Sachse, 82, of Lewisburg, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
Born August 17, 1926, in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Daniel C. and Margaret J. (Tressler) Sachse. He and his wife of 55 years, the former Nancy B. Benninger, were married July 25, 1953.
Daniel was a 1943 graduate of West Hazleton High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably during World War II. Daniel graduated in 1948 from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and employed his entire career with Pennsylvania Power and Light where he was the Plant Superintendent at the PPL Sunbury and Montour Power Plants.
Daniel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, where he served on the church council. He was a member of the Central PA Section of ASME, where he served on the executive committee and was chairman for 1 year. In addition, Daniel was a member of the Boy Scout Troop Committee, the Union County and Buffalo Valley Sportsmen’s Association, and the Union County Historical Society, where he was on the Archives and Museum Committee.
He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, antiquing, reading history books, and spending time in the outdoors by hunting and fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel G. and Lorinda Sachse of Arvada, Col. and Thomas W. Sachse of Reston, Va.; one daughter, Karen L. Berlage of Gaithersburg, Md.; one brother, Clark Sachse of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and three grandchildren, Natalie, Brian and Matthew.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was predeceased by a brother, Charles Sachse.
Funerals services were held Tues., May 12, at Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg. His minister, Pastor Gregory Davidson, presided.
Burial was at the convenience of the family.

John F. Bingaman
John F. Bingaman, 59, of Sand Hill Road, Selinsgrove passed away at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in the emergency room of Sunbury Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 13, 1949, in Penns Creek, a son of the late Walter B. and Dorothy A. Bingaman.
He attended Mifflinburg High School.
John was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Marine Corps. He received the Vietnamese Service Medal with Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
He was a self-employed painter.
He is survived by his companion, Lynn Langley, of Selinsgrove; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dennis Dershem, of Millmont; a son, Shane, of Texas; and two grandchildren, Megan and Derek Morgan. He also is survived by seven brothers and sisters, Jim Dorman, of Middleburg, Phyllis Trego, of Texas, Walter Bingaman Jr., of Sunbury, Darlene Cramer, of California, Gloria Weaver, of Selinsgrove, Linda Shambach, of Middleburg, and Steve Bingaman, of Milton; and one half sister, Lena Mae Rhoads, of Milton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Bingaman.
At John’s request, there was no viewing. Graveside services with military honors were conducted Saturday, May 9, in Evergreen Cemetery, Selinsgrove.

George E. Himmelwright
George E. Himmelwright, 55, of Kreamer, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at his home, which he shared with his brother, Charles.
He was born June 21, 1953, in West Chester, a son of the late Claude E. and Grace H. (Auman) Himmelwright.
He attended Selinsgrove High School.
George was member of the New Berlin American Legion, Selinsgrove Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1173 and the Dauntless Hook & Ladder Company, Selinsgrove.
He had a passion for Harley motorcycles and cars. George loved his brother’s dog, Duke, who was by his side during his illness. Just recently, George’s friends held a benefit motorcycle ride.
He is survived by two brothers, Charles E. Himmewright of Kreamer and Barry E. Himmelwright of Middleburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Philip Moyer of Freeburg; one sister-in-law, Debbie Shaffer of Middleburg; nephews, Zachary Himmelwright and Adam Moyer; niece, Misty Moyer; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded by one brother, Claude “Corky” Himmelwright.
Funeral services were held Fri., May 8, at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills. Pastor Tim Reich officiated.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Freeburg.

Howard R. Lewis
Howard R. Lewis, 95, a former resident of Irish Valley, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Before his hospitalization, he was a patient at the Emmanuel Center, Danville.
He was born Aug. 30, 1913, in Irish Valley, a son of the late George and Lizzie (Oxenrider) Lewis. He was married to Nellie Lewis, who preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 1977.
Howard formerly was employed as a mechanic and a gardener for Anna Lewis in Irish Valley. He was last employed by the Service Electric Cable Co.
He was a member of Clark’s Grove United Methodist Church, Irish Valley, Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge 349, Elysburg, and Royal Arch Chapter 264, Shamokin.
Howard was an avid bowler and Phillies fan and enjoyed playing pinochle and spending time at his cottage in Millmont.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Chester, and three sisters, Amanda Lewis, Data Brunstetter and Zora Swank.
Funeral services were held Fri., May 8, at Clark’s Grove United Methodist Church, Irish Valley. The Rev. Susan Roehs officiated.
Burial was in Summit Cemetery, Irish Valley.

Amanda Miraha Lower
Amanda Miraha Lower, 17, of 262 Third St., New Columbia entered into rest at 1:59 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after fighting a 17-year battle with cystic fibrosis and awaiting a second lung transplant.
She was born Nov. 18, 1991, in Lewisburg, a daughter of Teresa K. Walker and Ken D. Sampsell, of New Columbia, and James W. and Nova L. Lower, of Lewisburg.
Amanda was in the 10th grade at Milton Area Senior High School.
She attended West End Bible Fellowship, Millmont.
Amanda was a strong-willed person. She enjoyed attending races in Selinsgrove with her Pap, playing Guitar Hero, baking and cooking, swimming, roasting marshmallows at camp fires and spending time with her sisters, family and her dog, Tinkerbell. Amanda was a fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the Jonas Brothers.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are grandparents, Chester Sr. and Grace Walker of Lewisburg, Dawn and Greg Scholl of New Columbia and James Sr. and Linda Lower of Lewisburg; two sisters, Alysia K. Sampsell and Alyson I. Sampsell of New Columbia; two stepbrothers, Nicholas P. Young and Wesley M. Martz of Lewisburg; and aunts and uncles, Paul and Patricia Kahler of Millmont, Denise Walker of Lewisburg, Brian and Mel Walker of Lewisburg, Paul Walker of Milton and Justin Lower of Lewisburg.
She was preceded in death by one uncle, Chester W. Walker Jr.
Funeral services were held Fri., May 8, at West End Bible Fellowship, 19200 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont. Dick DeVett, pastor of West End Bible Fellowship, officiated.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
