Martha Herman Pontius
    Martha Herman Pontius, 93, of The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove died early Monday morning, April 28, 2008, where she had been a resident since 2000. Before that, she lived at the Pennsfield Apartments, Selinsgrove, for 18 years and on Brouse Street in Lewisburg for many years.
    A native of Union County, she was born July 25, 1914, in Limestone Township, a daughter of the late Norman L. and Ada (Reichley) Herman. In 1953, she married Samuel E. Pontius, who preceded her in death in April 1997 after 44 years of marriage.
    Martha graduated as valedictorian of the Mifflinburg High School Class of 1933.
    During World War II, she was employed at the Middletown Air Depot. In 1967, she retired as a bookkeeper for the Farm Credit Association of Lewisburg after 19 years of service.
    Martha was a lifelong member of Dreisbach United Church of Christ and a charter member of the Union County Historical Society.
    She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and was a great lover of horses and horseback riding.
    She is survived by one sister, Anna Maurer of Lewisburg; one niece, Connie Reidell and her husband Charles of Mifflinburg; and one nephew, Harry Maurer and his wife Linda of Winfield.
    Friends and relatives will be received from 11 to noon Thursday, May 1, at the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will begin at noon with her pastor, the Rev. Michael C. Romig, officiating.
    Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.

Catherine Louise Tanner
    Catherine Louise Tanner, 68, of 5 Roup Lane, Danville passed away at her home on Sunday, April 27, 2008.
    She was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Rush Township, a daughter of the late Alfred and Julia (Upton) Wertman. She was married for 52 years to Kenneth Tanner, who survives.
    Catherine was employed at Geisinger Medical Center in the housekeeping department for 16 years, retiring in 2002.
    She loved music, gardening and sewing. Catherine was such a kind and loving person and would never say no to someone in need.
    In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Shelly King of Riverside; two sons, Stanley Tanner of Mifflinburg and Steven Tanner of Mausdale; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Wertman of Sunbury.
    Preceding her in death were one daughter, Sherry Lee Tanner; one grandson, Jerome Tanner; one granddaughter, Nicole King; two brothers, William and Henry Wertman; and two sisters, Alice Everheart and Faye Walters.
    Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.
    Those wishing to do so may make a contribution in Catherine’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
    The Brady Funeral Home Inc., 320 Church St., is assisting the Tanner family.

Charles “Charlie” Alvin Stahl
    Charles “Charlie” Alvin Stahl, 73, of 2195 Weikert Road, Millmont for the past 40 years, and a lifelong resident of Hartley Township, went to be with the Lord with his family at his side at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Rolling Hills Manor, Millmont.
    He was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Hartley Township, a son of the late William Harrison and Florence Ellen (Truckenmiller) Stahl. On Aug. 22, 1953, in Hagerstown, Md., he married the former Betty L. Snyder, who survives.
    Charlie was employed as an equipment operator for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1983.
    He was a member of the Mifflinburg Moose, Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, Mifflinburg V.F.W., Union County Sportsmens Club, North American Fishing Club, and a life member of the West End Fire Company.
    Charlie enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing and hunting with his friends and family, and gardening at his home. He was also a NASCAR fan.
    In addition to his wife of nearly 55 years, he is survived by one son, William D. Stahl of Millmont; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ellen M. and Don L. Kahler of Millmont, and Deb L. Gross of Laurelton; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Marlin and Myrna Stahl of Ickesburg, Raymond Stahl of New Columbia, and Carl and Pat Stahl of Branson, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Ida and Earl Bartlett of Millmont; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Charles A. Stahl, Jr., in 1978; four brothers, Earl and Robert Stahl, and William and Guy Stahl in infancy; and three sisters, Margaret Radel, Alice Hummel, and Hazel Thomas.
    Visitors may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the West End Bible Fellowship Worship Center (former Senior Center), 28820 Old Turnpike Road, Route 45, Millmont, where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Richard L. DeVett, officiating.
    Burial will be in the Lincoln Chapel Cemetery, Laurelton.

Bernard J. “Bernie” Danglovitch
    Bernard J. “Bernie” Danglovitch, 71, of 1735 Penns Creek Road, Mifflinburg entered into eternal rest at 6:06 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
    He was born July 2, 1936, in Shamokin, a son of the late Jacob and Della (Karpinski) Danglovitch. He was married on July 13, 1964, in Jamesburg, N.Y., to the former Joanna M.E. Mitchel, who survives.
Bernie was a 1955 graduate of Shamokin High School.
    On June 15, 1955, in Wilkes-Barre, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving until his honorable discharge at Camp Lejeune, N.C., on April 3, 1959.
    Bernie retired in 2001 as a cabinet maker from Ritz Craft Inc., Mifflinburg. Earlier in life, he worked at Pennsylvania House Furniture, Lewisburg, and Phelps-Dodge, South Brunswick, N.J.
    He enjoyed spending time with friends at the family cabin on Penns Creek.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Joseph Danglovitch of Mifflinburg; two daughters, Brenda S. Theriauht of Oshawa, Ontario, and Andrea M. Washington of King George, Va.; one brother, Daniel R. Danglovitch of Shamokin; and four grandchildren, Jakub Theriauht, Juliane Theriauht and Hannah and Shelby Washington.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Lorraine Maschal.
    Family and friends are invited to a life celebration service at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Danglovitch cabin on Penns Creek.

Pearl B. Noll
    Pearl B. Noll, 90, a former resident of Morris, Lewisburg and Grayson View, Selinsgrove, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
    Born Dec. 15, 1917, in Mazeppa, she was a daughter of the late Levi and Mary (Hottenstein) Beaver. Her husband of 70 years, George W. Noll, died Jan. 23, 2006.
    Pearl was a 1935 graduate of Lewisburg High School.
    She was employed at Weis Markets in Lewisburg for almost 20 years, retiring in 1978.
    She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Lewisburg.
    Pearl enjoyed crafts, crocheting, knitting and painting. She was fond of traveling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Surviving are four children, Georgia Pontius and her husband Don of Hummels Wharf, Carol Kline and her husband Alan of Newport, Melvin Noll and his wife Doris of Newport and Barbara Frey of Cloverdale, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
    Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, was a great-grandson, Geoffrey Frey, and two sisters, Jennie Waughen and Valda Keefer.
    Funeral services were held Sun., April 27, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Her pastor, the Rev. Andrew R. Morgan officiated.
    Burial was in Lewisburg Cemetery.
    The family suggests memorial contributions in Pearl’s memory be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 42 S. Fourth St., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
    The family was assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
