Linda Darlene Haire
    Linda Darlene Haire, 57, of 501 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg entered into rest at 9:20 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at her residence.
    She was born Aug. 7, 1954, in Durham, N.H., the daughter of the late Mardean R. Sr. and Ruth (Terry) Miller. On Dec.27, 1998, in Gulf Breeze, Fla., she married Gary Lee Haire who survives.
    Darlene began her career working as a teller at Annapolis Bank & Trust in 1972. She then moved to Florida where she worked in retail. In 1999, she and Gary moved to Mifflinburg and she began working at Swineford National Bank, Mifflinburg office as a teller, she retired in June of 2011 as an assistant manager at the Hummels Wharf office.
    Darlene was a collector of Victorian Era clothing and furnishings. She enjoyed flea markets, antiquing, and spending time with her beloved dogs, Graci, Emmit, and Teddy.
    Darlene is the last of here immediate family. She was preceded in death by one brother, Mardean R. Miller Jr.
    Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thurs., May 3, at the Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg. A service of prayer and reflection will be conducted at 8 with the Rev. Ronald Warfle, officiating.
    Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Navarre, Fla.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Darlene`s memory may be sent to American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Guy Clarence Smith
    Guy Clarence Smith, 88, of 611 Nagle St., New Berlin for more than 20 years, entered into rest on Saturday morning, April 28, 2012, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where he had been a resident since February.
    He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Paul and Helen (Bingaman) Smith.  
    Guy served in the Army, 981st Motor Ambulance Company, from July 26, 1943 until his honorable discharge March 3, 1946. He was honored with the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
    He was employed for over 30 years as a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight, Baltimore, Md.
    Guy enjoyed fishing with his brother in his spare time.
    Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, James G. Smith and William S. and Michelle Smith, all of Ferndale, Md.; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Ron Campbell, of Berwick; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Smith, of Mifflinburg; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Anna Mae and Kenneth Shuck, of Mifflinburg, and Mary Sampsell, of Lewisburg; two grandchildren, Hannah Smith and William Smith; and his companion, Gladys M. Whitesel, of New Columbia.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Clair Smith; and one sister, Miriam Herman.
    Friends and family are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m. Thurs., May 3, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 with the Rev. Paul Cope officiating.
    Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
    Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Suite F., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Darlene L. “Dolly” Reich
    Darlene L. “Dolly” Reich, 65, of Middle Road, Beavertown went home to be with her Lord at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
    She was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Nestor and Bessie (Narehood) Booney. On Dec. 1, 1962, she married Norman L. Reich who survives.
    Dolly attended school in Mifflinburg.
    She had been employed at Saylor’s Shirt factory, Beavertown, Kinney Shoe factory, Beaver Springs, Huntington Throwing Mill, Mifflinburg, JPM, Beaver Springs and also drove bus for USTA.
    Dolly was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Beavertown, a member of the Gideons Int.  Auxiliary and the Beaver Springs Senior Center.
    The love of her life was her Lord and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed shopping and volunteering at the M.A.C.C. and playing table shuffleboard, rummikub and cards at the Beaver Springs Senior Center.  
    In addition to her husband, she is survived  by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Ronald Keister, of Middleburg and Debbie and Roger Snook, of Beavertown; four grandchildren, Janelle Keister and fiancé, Brandon Werner, Jessica Keister, Caitlin Herbster and husband, Theron, and Chelsea Snook; Dolly was anticipating the birth of her first great-grandson, Easton Herbster and also looking forward to her granddaughter Janelle’s wedding.
    Funeral services were held Wed., May 2,   at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Middle Road Beavertown. The Rev. Kathy Mercado officiated.   
    Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown.

Shirley June Showalter Boyer
    Shirley June Showalter Boyer, 82, of 501 Old Orchard Lane, Mifflinburg entered into rest at 11:26 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
    She was born Dec. 24, 1929, in Millmont, the daughter of the late Fred Showalter and Hilda (Grove) Showalter Jamison. On Nov. 23, 1950, in Hartleton she married Spencer E. Boyer, who survives.
    Shirley graduated from Mifflinburg High School Class of 1946. She earned her bachelor of science in sociology from Susquehanna University and her master’s degree in education from Bucknell University.
    She began her teaching career at the Salem Schoolhouse in 1950 teaching for one year, at which time she took time off to begin her family. In 1959, she began teaching kindergarten with the Mifflinburg Area School District retiring in 1989.
    She was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Athenaeum Club, Mifflinburg.
    Shirley enjoyed reading and knitting. She was a proud grandmother and was very influential in her grandchildren’s lives.
    Surviving are one daughter, Ann M. Boyer, of Kutztown; one son, Spencer E. Boyer Jr. and his companion, Linda Hawkins, of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Evan Boyer and spouse, Alejandra, Adam Boyer, Hannah Boyer and Michael Boyer; one brother, Glenn Showalter, of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; and one sister-in-law, Sandra Showalter Khuen-Kryk, of Warminster.
    Preceding her in death are one brother, James Showalter; one sister, Mary Fox; and one brother-in-law, Vernon Fox.
    Funeral services were held Wed., May 2, at the Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg. The Rev. Vickie L. Brown, officiated.
    Interment was in the East Side Section of Mifflinburg Cemetery.

Julia B. “Judy” Garman
    Julia B. “Judy” Garman died peacefully on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at her home in Mount Pleasant Mills, Snyder County.
    She was born Feb. 15, 1927, in the nearby town of Penns Creek, to David A. Sr.  and Erma Spangler Bilger. By 1934, Judy was the big sister to three siblings.  
    Judy was active and smiling throughout her life. Early memories include walking to grade school with friends and, later, in Selinsgrove High School’s class of 1945, cheerleading, creating havoc in home economics class, driving fast cars, fighting for space at the girls’ room mirror, and stealing boyfriends.
    In 1948, Judy married one of those boyfriends, George P. Garman, after completing modeling school in New York City and working there as a runway model. The couple went on to own and operate the George P. Garman Funeral Homes in Mount Pleasant Mills and Liverpool until George’s death in 1990.
    Judy and George had three daughters, all of whom survive. They include Christine Lynne Garman, Selinsgrove, now president of the funeral homes; Stephanie Garman Maurer, Harrisburg, and Melanie Garman-Shaffer, Mount Pleasant Mills. Family of Christine includes daughter Kymberley L. Best, Sunbury, and her children, Olivia, Anthony, Isabella, and Joseph Best; also daughter Tiffany C. Hawn, Selinsgrove, her husband, Wade, and their children Emmerson and Jack Hawn; also Christine’s companion, William G. Hilkert. Family of Stephanie includes former husband, Thomas W. Maurer, Liverpool, and their sons, Thomas George Maurer, Harrisburg, and Seth Garman Maurer, Mechanicsburg, as well as Seth’s fiancé, Christina Fortin; daughter Kirsten Julia Maurer was a homicide victim in 2008. Family of Melanie includes her husband, Scott C. Shaffer, and their sons, Adam Grant Shaffer, Carlisle, who himself entered the funeral business, and Clay Austin Shaffer, Pittsburgh. All of Judy’s grandchildren knew her as “Bunny.”
    Also surviving are Judy’s brother, David A. Bilger Jr., Mifflinburg, and his wife, Ethel; and Judy’s sister, Joan Jarrett, Camp Hill. Brother Richard Bilger died in 2006.
    The family remembers Judy for her kindness and generosity, sense of fashion, love of golf (she learned to play seriously after the daughters were grown), family get-togethers, and for her amazing strength in surviving ovarian cancer. She was beautiful inside and out, always there when needed, and will be missed more than words can describe.  
    Funeral services were held Mon., April 30, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills.
    Burial was in the adjacent cemetery.
    Funeral arrangements were handled with the deepest love and respect by Judy’s grandson, Adam Grant Shaffer, of the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, in coordination with the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., Mount Pleasant Mills.

Jean Marie Dodson Lyons
    Jean Marie Dodson Lyons, 80, residing at the residence of her daughter, Linda Cooper, 430 N. Fourth St., Mifflinburg formerly of Loop Station, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Sycamore Manor Health Center, Montoursville.
    Funeral services were held Tues., May 2, at the Hollidaysburg Christian Missionary Alliance, 183 Jefferson St., Hollidaysburg. The Rev. Steven Miller, the Rev. Donald Robson, and Lay Pastor John Rakow, officiated.
    Interment was in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Springs.

Dorothy Elizabeth Kepler
    Dorothy Elizabeth Kepler, 91, of Millmont, entered into rest at 10:48 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
    She was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Elizabethville, the daughter of the late Rev. Wayne Zern and Lily Mae (Root) Artz. She was married to John Clair Kepler, who passed away on Dec. 13, 2002. Together, they shared years of memories.
    Dorothy was a graduate of Elizabethville High School and Susquehanna University.
    She was employed as a music teacher, choir director and church organist in Tresselertown and Elizabethville, where she also taught private piano lessons.
    Dorothy enjoyed traveling, music and reading.
    She is survived by one niece and her husband, Diane L. (Artz) and Mark Eisenhower, of Rockville, Md.; a great-niece and nephew, Kara and Neil Eisenhower; one stepdaughter; Kendel (Kepler) Yackeren and her husband, Chuck Yackeren, of Boalsburg; one stepson, Chris Kepler and wife Christy (Moynihan) Kepler, of California; two grandchildren, Leslie and Carolyn Yackeren; and one great-grandson, Jonah Yackeren.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, the Rev. Harold E. Artz, and one sister-in-law, Ione Artz.
    A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, in Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont, with the Rev. John D. Yost officiating. Following the service, the family invites relatives and friends to a time of fellowship in the church hall.
