Carl R. Fetter
Carl R. Fetter, 84, of Orange St., Northumberland passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, May 3, 2009, at his home.
He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Penn Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Raymond J. and Carrie May (Brouse) Fetter. On Jan. 12, 1943, he married the former Beatrice M. Holland, who survives.
Carl attended Beaver school in Penn Township. He later joined the Army serving during World War II from Oct. 25, 1943 until being honorably discharged on Oct. 22, 1945. He was also a member of the 88th Infantry Division Association.
He and his wife farmed for many years until Carl began working for Penn DOT on the highways and roads. He later became a driver for Rich Oil Co., Northumberland and retired after many years of dedicated service.
Carl was a life member of the New Berlin American Legion 957 and Loyal Order of Moose 1173 of Selinsgrove.
Carl was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting deer and small game and was a member of the Spring Run Hunting Club in Eagles Mere. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two grandchildren, Susan J. Fetter of Northumberland and Allen D. and Bobbie Fetter of Sunbury; three great grandchildren, Janessa, Stephanie and Jonathan; two great-great-grandchildren, Isiah and Arianna; one brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Julia Fetter of New Berlin; and two sisters, Agnes Martin of Selinsgrove and Anna Mae Krisher of Milton.
He was preceded in death by one son, William Eugene Fetter in 2002, one granddaughter, Linda K. Fetter in 1999, one daughter-in-law, Florence E. Fetter, one brother, Marlin Fetter, and one sister, Dorothy Bailor.
Funeral services were held Wed., May 6, at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland. Pastor Eric H. Gearhart officiated.
Burial with military honors followed in Hummel’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
Ruth Amanda Beaver
Ruth Amanda Beaver, 90, of 2785 Johnson Mill Road, Mazeppa Lewisburg for over 60 years, and a resident of Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, since April 3, entered into rest at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where she had been a patient since April 18.
She was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Olanta, a daughter of the late William A. and Zada O. (Rowles) Snyder. In 1932, in Lewisburg, she married Charles Wesley Beaver who preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1997.
She was employed as a waitress at Bucknell University from 1957 to 1966. From 1966 to 1972, Ruth and her husband owned and operated Feese’s Restaurant in Mifflinburg. She was also employed at Tara Lee’s, New Berlin, until she retired in 1982.
Ruth was a member of the Mifflinburg First Church of the Nazarene since 1972. Earlier in life, she was a Sunday school teacher at the Mazeppa Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Ruth enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, sewing, and using her skills to mend clothing for family and friends.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Donald M., Sr. and Sandra I. Beaver of Selinsgrove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra L. and William W. Smith of Lewisburg, and Nancy A. and Gregory A. Seebold of Lewisburg; two sisters, Sandra Barrett of Grampian, and Shirley Noyes of Meriden, Conn.; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Donald M., Jr. and Joyce Beaver of Lewisburg, Cynthia and Dave Hess of Selinsgrove, Noel and Tom Trusal of Selinsgrove, Brian Anderson of Lewisburg, Brent Anderson of Lewisburg, Brandi and Steve Hook of Lewisburg, Ruthann and Rob Kerstetter of Mechanicsburg, and Stacey Seebold of Reading; 17 great-grandchidlren; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Snyder; two sisters, Grace Antes and Ovedia Rinehart; and her step-mother, Winifred A. Rowles.
Funeral services were held Sun., May 4, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg. The Rev. Wayne S. Krell officiated.
Burial was in the Mazeppa Cemetery.

Dorothy Irene Rishel
Dorothy Irene Rishel, 92, of Lewisburg, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
She was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late James and Kathryn (Smith) Fairchild. She and her husband, William A. "Bill" Rishel, were married Feb. 25, 1938. They celebrated 67 years together before his passing on June 10, 2005.
She graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1935.
Dorothy devoted her life to her family, farm and home. During her life, she was employed at the Sones Department Store and in the Bucknell and RiverWoods cafeterias.
Dorothy was a member of United in Christ Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, a longtime member of Buffalo Valley Grange 520 and was a member of the Ramblers Club.
She enjoyed traveling, and in her leisure time, she could be found either quilting or crocheting. She proudly presented quilts on many family occasions, including weddings, anniversaries and births. Recently, her hobbies included crocheting prayer shawls for her church and playing bingo.
She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, James A. and Sheila Rishel of Hollywood, Md., Barry L. and Laura Rishel of Mifflinburg, Bruce A. Rishel of Lewisburg, Wayne A. and Judy Rishel of Mifflinburg and Arlin L. and Rebecca Rishel of New Columbia; one daughter and son-in-law, Carole E. and Rob Kochik of Penfield, N.Y.; one sister, Kathryn Keidel of Ocala, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Only Rishel of Mifflinburg; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one brother, M. Owen Fairchild, who died in November, and one sister, Marie Ritter, who died in 1945.
Funeral services were held Fri., May 1, at United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1875 Churches Road, Lewisburg. Her pastor, the Rev. Catrina Ciccone officiated.
Burial was in Mazeppa Union Cemetery, Lewisburg.

Lorene Alexander Memorial
On March 9, 2009, Lorene Alexander, a native of Mifflinburg passed away. Her family will gather for a memorial service at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mifflinburg on Sat., May 9, at 1 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.
